Roche Continents brings together talented students for one week to explore sources of inspiration at the intersection of science and art, as well as the creative processes that drive innovation. At the end of the programme, attendees join the +1400 Roche Continents Alumni network.
Students will have the opportunity to engage with renowned scientists and artists, be exposed to provocative scientific research, actively participate in workshops and performances, visit exhibitions and experience artworks in the fields of visual arts, photography, and multimedia.
Roche Continents is an philanthropic engagement of Roche.
The programme takes place from August 7-14, 2022 in Arles, France. Sunday, August 14 is reserved for departures.
Previous cohorts comprised students from 30 different nationalities, 50% female and 50% male students. We seek students with different perspectives who will drive new ideas and ways of thinking. We look for participants who represent different thinking styles, life experiences, age range, gender identities and expressions, cultures, ethnicities and nationalities who can contribute to a dynamic environment of interdisciplinary inspiration. This diverse mix enhances the group dynamics and offers students a rich environment for learning from the programme and from each other. Additionally Roche is committed to accommodating participants with disabilities.
Students from a wide range of disciplines joined the programme in the past: medicine, pharmacology, biology, chemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics and computer science, physics, mathematics, statistics, visual arts, performing arts, music, composition, conducting, art history, philosophy and musicology. This year, we also encourage students from environmental research, biodiversity and conservation studies, and sustainability studies to apply.
Students chosen for Roche Continents should be open to cross-disciplinary exchange, to fully participate and to actively contribute for the entire programme. Partial participation in the programme is not possible. Kindly note that the programme will be conducted in English.
COVID-19 rules permitting, this year’s Roche Continents programme will take place in person.
The global pandemic continues to set the pace and is still challenging us in many ways. We will continue to monitor how the current pandemic situation is developing, but expect that the event can take place in August. We will have a Covid-19 safety concept in place based according to applicable laws, regulations and requirements in France. The safety of all our participants remains our highest priority.
Roche covers all expenses related to accommodation, meals and transportation within Europe. We encourage students to take public transport. Please note that we don’t pay for personal activities (such as sightseeing), or overseas travel.
