Roche Biochemical Pathways

A legacy in scientific education

After more than 50 years, the Biochemical Pathways poster has reached the end of its journey and will no longer be updated or distributed.
We are deeply grateful to the global scientific and educational community for the enduring interest and engagement it has inspired.

A trusted reference for over 50 years

For more than 50 years, the Biochemical Pathways posters served as a trusted reference for scientists, educators, and students around the world. First compiled by Dr. Gerhard Michal in 1965, these iconic charts became a familiar sight in research institutes, classrooms, and laboratories from Argentina to New Zealand.

Over the decades, the posters provided a unique and comprehensive overview of the chemical reactions of cells across species and organs—illuminating the complex pathways that underpin life itself. With Roche’s support, the Biochemical Pathways wall charts and digital editions reached tens of thousands of scientists and learners worldwide, freely distributed to hundreds of thousands of students.

Closing a chapter, continuing the legacy

As the boundaries of science continue to be pushed further, Roche has made the decision to phase out further development of the Biochemical Pathways poster. While no new or revised editions will be produced, the scientific and educational impact of this resource continues to live on in the work of scientists everywhere who were inspired and informed by it.

At Roche, we remain committed to fostering the spirit of innovation and scientific discovery that defined the Biochemical Pathways poster. In that same spirit, we are exploring new opportunities to create and share innovative scientific educational resources that will support the next generation of scientists worldwide.

You have to be someone with tenacity, patience, and a love for science.
