Hovik Sardaryan, born in 1993 in Armenia, studied composition (Bachelor) at the Yerevan State Conservatory with Ashot Zohrabyan from 2010 to 2014.
From 2015 - 2018 Hovik was a DAAD scholarship holder and studied composition with Wolfgang Rihm at the Karlsruhe University of Music. He has taken part in numerous masterclasses and workshops, namely Composers' academy in Tchaikovsky City (with Carola Bauckholt, Oscar Bianchi, Fabien Lévy), a workshop with Toshio Hosokawa and Péter Eötvös in Budapest, where he was also lucky enough to meet György Kurtág, etc. Hovik Sardaryan has won several prizes, including but not limited to the first prize at the Sayat Nova International Composition Competition (also Armenian State Philharmonic Prize and the Carnegie Hall Prize) (2014), the first place at the Trabant competition by Ensemble Phoenix Basel (2019), Busoni Advancement Prize from the Berlin Academy of the Arts (2019). For the 2021/22 season, he received the Schwarzkopf Composition Scholarship from the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic. He is currently studying Konzertexamen at the University of Music Saar with Prof. Arnulf Herrmann.
