Examine the common ground of creativity

Intellectual exchanges and disciplinary cross-pollination between the participants are central to and the goal of this annual event. Chosen by nomination and a selection process, 40 students from a wide range of scientific fields of study and various arts disciplines are given ample opportunity to engage with renowned scientists and artists, be exposed to provocative scientific research, study contemporary artworks and visit exhibitions, participate in workshops and interact with other students. For many, this is their first contact with the unusual auditory and visual experience of contemporary arts.

Alumni network and community

Besides gaining interdisciplinary inspiration and unique networking opportunities at the event, attendees of Roche Continents will join the Roche Continents alumni network of more than 1,400 former participants.

Previous editions with the Salzburg Festival

From 2007 through 2019, Roche Continents took place in Salzburg, Austria in partnership and collaboration with the Salzburg Festival. 100 students were invited to engage with renowned scientists and artists, listen to thought-provoking contemporary music concerts, and speak to musicians and conductors. Participants also had the opportunity to attend contemporary music performances of the Salzburg Festival.
