Proteomics is the study all proteins expressed in a cell (tissue, organism, body fluids etc...), the so-called “proteome.” This is achieved by combining protein extraction and purification methods with mass spectrometry. The comparative study of proteomes between diseased and healthy individuals, or between samples treated with a drug and untreated samples can help to understand how genetic variations affect cellular functions, and identify new therapeutic targets, biomarkers or drug modes of action.
