Roche expands IT solutions array for the professional laboratory
cobas IT middleware enables the total automated laboratory
Roche enhances its lineup of IT solutions for the professional medical laboratory and today unveils cobas IT middleware, a software suite for fully automated workflow management. Enabling laboratory managers to easily link multiple laboratory systems and software with their IT infrastructure, cobas IT middleware takes over autonomous coordination of laboratory routine processes. More than a simple workflow engine, cobas IT middleware is Roche’s evolutionary step forward that enables a laboratory’s total automation.
Working as the laboratory’s single process management platform, cobas IT middleware handles a laboratory’s sample workflow from pre-analytical to post-analytical phases, even at multiple sites. This allows full flexibility to map and to manage a lab organisation from a single point of access, while ensuring proper running of sample routines locally and remotely.
“In clinical laboratories, mastering information management is vital to the delivery of results from doctors to patients. However, one important piece was still missing—organising various instruments and information even at widespread work benches from a single point,” states Georgios Spitadakis, Head of Workflow and IT at Roche Professional Diagnostics in Rotkreuz/Switzerland.
Honoured by Microsoft Switzerland with the Technology Innovation Award, the software suite enables authorized laboratory operators to easily address all the routines on a web browser showing an unified real-time laboratory view. Particularly multi-site organizations with a high throughput volume benefit from a smooth access to the right technical information required at the right time.
Thanks to its task oriented user interface, cobas IT middleware allows each staff member a customized and immediate control by prioritising tests, defining sample routing, identifying errors, and dealing with quality issues before integral processes become affected.
Conceived and developed by a team of software specialists at Roche Professional Diagnostics in Rotkreuz/Switzerland, cobas IT middleware replaces the Process System Manager (PSM), Roche’s previous middleware solution. cobas IT middleware is commercially available in the whole region of EMEA and Canada.
