IT solutions to support clinical laboratories in meeting current and future needs

Roche (SIX: RO, ROG; OTCQX: RHHBY) today announced the launch of cobas infinity IT solutions, a clinical laboratory IT solution that manages data and sample workflow for labs of all sizes.  Healthcare professionals will benefit from a more flexible and simplified working experience made possible through an intuitive and common user interface across laboratory disciplines.  The fully web-based and modular architecture makes the solution expandable to meet current and future needs.

Workflow and data management of clinical laboratories is becoming more complex due to aging population and diverse demands in developed countries, and improved access to healthcare and rapidly growing populations in emerging countries.  At the same time, strong cost pressure, and staff shortages coupled with increasing regulatory and safety requirements, require complete traceability and visibility in laboratory operations.

“Clinical laboratories face challenges of increasing demands and shortages of qualified resources”, said Georgios Spitadakis, Senior Vice President Workflow and IT at Roche Professional Diagnostics.  “The expectation to laboratory information management is shifting from “providing correct data” to “transforming massive amounts of data into meaningful information.  For a patient-centric approach, multiple stakeholders in different healthcare domains need to access information wherever they are”, he continues.  “We aim to help our customers flexibly respond to those changes with confidence by providing IT solutions that visualize and simplify laboratory operations in addition to supporting consistent quality management.  We believe the advances in IT solutions are playing a key role in improving efficiency of laboratory operations, which leads to improved patient outcomes”.

cobas infinity IT solutions is an IVD laboratory informatics solution that goes beyond workflow management of the core laboratory and drives information and sample flows across various clinical disciplines.  This software has a modular architecture that can serve as a middleware, or add LIS (Laboratory Information System) functionality - depending on customers’ needs and customer markets.  The fully web-based system along with modular architecture is designed to meet specific needs of each institution flexibly and can grow together with the laboratory it serves.  To further enhance laboratory efficiency across different clinical disciplines and satellite laboratories, this system offers a unified user interface that provides a consistent look and feel and personalized work areas in which you can tailor information to selected user roles.
