Roche Product Development (PD) China is seeking a Head of Clinical Science, PD China Oncology with clinical and drug development experience to lead the PD China Oncology organization. This individual will be responsible for leadership, strategy development and management of PD China oncology. The position will contribute to setting global strategy across these programs, including development innovation. The position will involve clinical development of new molecular entities, new combinations and new indications for products. Further, this position serves as a key collaborator for research, early development, Roche partnering and the commercial organization as well as external interactions. In addition to managing a large global clinical development team, the PD China Oncology Head will be jointly responsible with global for the oversight of studies conducted for all China-related oncology programs.
Context and Key Responsibilities:
This is a role reporting to the Senior Vice President, PD China Head. The position includes membership in the PD China LT as well as sitting on the global Product Development Oncology Leadership Team (PDO LT) and cross-functional Joint Oncology Leadership Team (JOLT).
In addition to chairing the PD China Oncology portfolio review, the position is responsible for the overarching strategy in PD China oncology. The position Integrates plans and partners with others, and ensures the excellence and scientific rigor of clinical development plans through management of the project team leaders (PTLs).
There is joint accountability to deliver late stage China oncology clinical development plans enabling regulatory submissions and approvals. The head is a recognized disease area expert with credibility to interface with key external regulatory and healthcare organizations and stakeholders (i.e. CDE, other Regulatory bodies, Payer organizations, Advisory Committees, Therapeutic Area Experts, media, analysts, etc.).
Key responsibilities include: Represents PD China Oncology late development within Roche as a member of the Oncology Leadership Team and through interactions with the PD China LT members as well as Research, Early Development, Commercial, and Roche Partnering senior leaders. Contributes to the PD China Portfolio Committee. Leads the strategic clinical oversight of the PD China Oncology late stage development portfolio with significant accountability for setting strategy across these programs, including decision-making and budget accountability for some programs. Ensures consistent and effective communication. Accountable for building PD China oncology working capability and establishing clear success metrics. Coaches, manages and supports employees to achieve business goals. Actively manages talent, career development, training and capabilities/skill assessment. Maintains and develops a positive organizational culture, by promoting the values of the focus on patients, science, and people. Prepares and manages resource and capacity, utilizing resources in the most efficient way.

Leads the PD China Oncology portfolio reviews
Represents PD China Oncology late development within Roche, as a member of the PDO LT and JOLT, as well as through interactions with other PD China LT members, Research, Early Development, Commercial, Regulatory and Roche Partnering senior leaders
Closely interfaces with pRED, gRED, cRED and Roche Partnering to provide disease and pivotal development expertise in defining new development opportunities, exploring new areas of discovery, and potential acquisitions or external partnerships
Evaluates new molecular entities and approved medicines in the late stage portfolio for new indication opportunities
Accountable for building PD China oncology working capability and establishing clear success metrics
Recognized disease expert with credibility to interface with key external health organizations (i.e. CDE, Advisory Committees, Key Opinion Leaders, reporters, analysts, WHO etc.)
Coaches, manages and supports employees to achieve business goals. Actively manages talent and career development

Critical Experiences and Qualifications:
Candidates should have an M.D. or M.D. /Ph.D. with board certification/eligibility in Oncology and/or Hematology; expertise in clinical drug development is required.
A minimum of 10 years drug development experience in a large biotech, pharmaceutical or clinical organization. Clinical practice expertise in oncology.
Experience in oncology drug development or research is required.
Scientific experience in molecular oncology and/or hematology is preferred.
Significant preclinical/scientific research experience and publication record.
Proven experience interacting with senior and executive leadership.
Proven experience at filing products with China regulatory authorities.
Required to travel internationally.
Technical/Functional Skill & Knowledge Areas:
Acts effectively as a delegate for the Senior Vice President or as a representative to other groups inside and outside of Roche PD China for the relevant therapeutic area(s).
Demonstrated clinical trial experience (with significant clinical trial experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry).
Expert knowledge of Oncology drug development.
Recognized as a subject matter expert within the field of Oncology by both internal and external experts.
Experience in lab-based research a plus
Strong publication record a plus
Strong understanding of molecular drivers of cancer, diagnostic methods, as well as cancer immunology or immunotherapy required.
Experience leading and managing a large scientific and medical group (comprised of direct and indirect reports) for complex high profile molecules and/or programs.
Proven strategic thinking and sound judgment.
Working knowledge of international regulatory environment; direct experience with national or international regulators a plus.
Prepared to make decisions and take calculated risks, able to synthesize detailed information and make sound decisions based on risk assessment and balancing of priorities.
Ability to critically evaluate scientific data with a working knowledge of the Product Development long-range plan and experience with cross-functional departments.
Fluent in both verbal and written English
