Objectives and Scope of Position

The GMCL for Influenza is a global field-based role working across countries to support development and refinement of Roche strategy in pandemic influenza through effective customer engagement. The GMCL is accountable to identify and map key therapeutic area experts and non-HCP stakeholders for pandemic influenza in Europe.  Establishing partnerships with key external stakeholders (including TAEs, policy makers, payers and regulatory committees, as appropriate), collaborating with global and affiliate cross-functional partners, the GMCL provides insights to inform and shape the global and local medical strategy on pandemic influenza in Europe, including the identification of data generation needs. 

Summary of Main Responsibilities

1.Develops and facilitates relationships and collaborative networks with external stakeholders to support pandemic preparedness 

  • Enables successful collaboration with governments in Europe for pandemic preparedness by educating and engaging key TAEs and non-HCP stakeholders relevant for the implementation of pandemic strategy
  • Discusses and supports data generation strategy for pandemic influenza to identify gaps and opportunities for additional data generation needs
  • Identifies and provide solutions to overcome barriers to facilitate collaborations between customers and the organization

2.Provides real-time insights and ground level understanding of the landscape across countries to increase the effectiveness and impact of pandemic influenza strategy for the franchise

  • Maps and profile external stakeholders relevant to the pandemic influenza field to inform and build engagement plans aligned with customers’ needs and the franchise strategy
  • Builds a comprehensive understanding of the local environment
  • Maintains insight into internal and external developments and trends to contribute to the medical plan strategy and execution
  • Synthesises information from multiple sources and identifies areas that will have a substantive impact on  overall and in particular pandemic influenza strategy, communicate effectively across network
  • Identifies opportunities and new developments and feeds in insights to the organisation from a range of sources, including Therapeutic Area Experts (TAEs), real world evidence, scientific voice of customer, patients and patient groups

3.Partners with global and local cross-functional colleagues

  • Cooperates closely with global PDMA, Commercial, Access and Policy to ensure continuous alignment to support development of pandemic strategy
  • Closely liaise with policy and access teams to navigate successfully the local
    landscape and to shape a more favourable environment for a successful implementation of the pandemic strategy
  • Maintains communication and provides development to build understanding, alignment and collaboration of the affiliates as needed with the global strategy

4.Develop and facilitate a dynamic network of external stakeholders to ensure that Roche is the preferred partner

  • Facilitates scientific knowledge exchange with global experts and across scientific networks at global and local level 
  • Establishes and maintains scientific collaborations with global thought leaders, global scientific societies and non-HCP stakeholders
  • Builds and strengthens a network of scientific collaborators with a focus on supporting progress in the disease area
  • Is visible as the ‘face of Roche’ with scientific stakeholders and an ambassador for the values of the organization
  • Facilitates understanding of Roche resources and connections to customers and identifies how they might provide solutions and support for the customer
  • Identifies and progresses key opportunities for increased collaboration and cooperation with and between internal and external stakeholders

5.    Contributes to the high performance and innovation of the GMCL team/function to optimize customer experience and to evolve to meet the needs of the organization

  • Contributes to the team spirit and climate by acting with entrepreneurial and inclusive spirit, fostering innovation and collaboration to develop new approaches to enhance customer experience
  • Ensures efficient collaboration with the team mates to capitalize on best practices
  • Maintains the highest standards and level of scientific expertise in the team by contributing to the onboarding of new team members and continuous learning activities (e.g. journal clubs, congresses updates)
  • Gives feedback on and contributes to team/function specific working practices, standards and innovation

Cross functional Support

  • Liaises with other teams within PDMA, PD, Commercial, Policy, Access, International and Affiliates providing input as required

  • Is responsible for acting in line with legal, regulatory and company standards and codes of practice (such as Roche Code of Conduct and any other Roche directives and guidelines) and including all local country policies related to HCP engagement
  • Completes all required training modules as a priority

Professional and Technical Requirements

  • Advanced scientific degree with affiliate and/or global industry experience is required
  • Professional scientific degree (PhD, PharmD, MD) preferred


  • Demonstrates and maintains highest standards of scientific and clinical knowledge in defined therapeutic areas drawing on a range of sources including publications, meetings, conferences, interaction with key TAEs, ongoing discussion with affiliates and key global functions
  • Solid knowledge of role of WHO, governments and other non-HCP stakeholders in pandemic preparedness in Europe
  • Expert knowledge of processes and procedures for clinical trial engagements for corporate sponsored and independent supported studies
  • Understands and maintains knowledge of global regulations, guidelines and SOPs, GXP standards and other important business intelligence resources on a concurrent basis
  • Solid knowledge of drug safety /pharmacovigilance
  • Ability to obtain expert knowledge of company initiatives, molecules, and pipeline

  • Significant experience in the pharmaceutical or related industry at global/affiliate level
  • Previous experience in policy/access is a plus
  • Previous experience in the relevant therapeutic area is a plus
  • At least 2 years experience in a field customer facing role
  • Substantial track record of Scientific collaborations with external experts incl. non-HCP experts and/or collaborative groups


  • National and International travel required (up to 60% )
  • Language skills to allow effective communication with external stakeholders as appropriate per assigned territory
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
