Healthcare is transforming fast towards more patient-centric, data-driven and value-based healthcare. The newly formed Roche Information Solutions (RIS) business area in Roche Diagnostics will focus on providing integrated digital solutions and data capabilities for existing and new customers along the care continuum - supporting the personalized healthcare strategy of Roche, such as cloud-based software solutions, data services and analytics for diagnostic labs, clinics, patients and, in the future potentially payors. Insights generated by RIS solutions help deliver medical value on Roche’s integrated testing portfolio, enable confident healthcare decisions and improve care along the patient journey - supporting affordable, high quality, accessible care for patients around the globe.

As the Head of Communications, Provider Insights, you would take an active role in shaping the newly forming RIS Business Area “Provider Insights” as well as the Global Communications team in Roche Diagnostics. You lead strategic communications for the RIS Customer Area which is responsible for providing digital solutions for research labs, clinics and patients, helping build a profitable Insights Business for Roche. Your are a member of the Provider Insights leadership team and responsible for the Customer Area’s communications strategy and respective activities to help deliver on business objectives, drive strategic priorities and contribute to positioning Roche in digital healthcare. A trusted counsellor and seasoned expert in business partnering as well as communications, you drive thought leadership, media relations and executive communications for the Customer Area Head and leaders. You also work with communications colleagues across the division to shape the broader Roche Diagnostics narrative and drive more integrated communications to shape the Roche reputation as a key player in digital healthcare. 

You have a passion for innovation driven by software, data, IT and technology. You possess excellent agility to navigate and thrive in a fast-paced and changing environment. You have sound knowledge of the digital healthcare industry - specifically around cloud-based software solutions and insights in the clinical setting - combined with a strong track record of converting complex technology concepts into compelling content and initiatives to drive thought leadership, particularly with priority business stakeholders. You want to play an active role in transforming Diagnostics as well as the broader digital ecosystem of healthcare and develop new leadership skills in a fast-paced, rapidly changing industry/environment.

The Opportunity

  • Together with senior members of the RIS Communications team translate the business and divisional communications vision, strategy and priorities into an overarching RIS Communications strategy for high-impact campaigns that help position Roche in digital healthcare

  • Aligned with the overarching RIS Communications strategy, develop and implement - together with relevant stakeholders - integrated executive communications and employee engagement strategies 

  • Lead the Customer Area portfolio and related key strategic topic narratives: in partnership with the Customer Area leadership team and relevant stakeholder networks, build a strategic communications plans that help deliver on priorities and maximize impact.

  • Provide executive communications and leadership counsel to the Customer Area Head and leaders  with focus on high-value, impactful employee and external communications. Ensure Customer Area strategic priority topics and campaigns are integrated in RIS portfolio as well as Diagnostics and Group campaigns to internal and external audiences.

  • Drive and help develop communications concepts and tools to engage and inspire a diverse workforce, equip leaders with the skills to effectively inspire their organizations, and enable colleagues to act as ambassadors for the work they do and the impact the organization has

  • Maintain sound knowledge of the respective Customer Area portfolio; use knowledge of business and communications insights, metrics, expertise, and decision principles to effectively identify complex issues and address them in respective strategies and plans.

  • Stay abreast of internal and external developments, industry trends, particularly around digitalization of healthcare, as these pertain to strategic communication, priorities and Agile Ways of Working.


  • Demonstrated passion and proven ability to lead in ambiguity, act as a coach for leaders and professionals role with a creative mindset and high self-awareness.

  • Help build a motivated, empowered and networked team that challenges the status quo, explores new ways of doing things and radically simplifies.

  • Deliver an integrated Customer Area communications strategy that supports the broader RIS Communications strategy and aligns with divisional and Group Communications as well as business goals and strategic priorities.

Who you are

  • Demonstrated experience in managing integrated communications in the digital healthcare space to drive impactful thought leadership across stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated domain knowledge in healthcare software, related impact, challenges and opportunities.

  • Proven ability to work effectively in a highly-matrixed, diverse organization and VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous) environment with enterprise mindset and systems thinkin

  • Demonstrated ability to influence with courageous authenticity and build trust with individuals at all levels within the organization.

  • Demonstrated excellent situational assessment and objective evaluation skills, with an ability to comprehend and translate complex topics into manageable pieces

  • Demonstrated ability to leverage technology and data to generate insights as foundation for analysis, recommendations and decisions.

Additionally you bring the following competencies and qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in communications, with a focus on external communications preferably gained in the HealthTech, IT, pharmaceutical or Diagnostics industry.

  • 3+ years of experience indirect leadership and managing teams beyond reporting lines is strongly preferred.

  • International or global work experience.

  • Outstanding strategic agility: thorough grasp of the digital health / HealthTech industry and regularly applies such to create robust and innovative strategies. 

  • Outstanding consulting skills: active listening skills, ability to extract and quickly process key information, summarize key needs or interests of internal customers, and provide targeted and appropriate coaching, insights and recommendations 

  • Self-motivation: able to thrive in a non-hierarchical, self-organizing environment, where teams form around projects and initiatives.

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work-related experience, required.
