The Position

The Research Informatics and Software Engineering Department (RI&SE) within Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED) seeks Informatics Systems Analysts to serve critical roles in delivering transformational software that enables the discovery of life-changing therapies. You will be responsible for understanding the needs of our scientists, who are driven to convert research discoveries into life-changing medicines, to help establish a comprehensive ecosystem of applications and tools to record, organize, store, secure, and access data in meaningful ways.  You will analyze how IT systems fit our scientific business needs, elicit requirements for new systems development, assist software teams with implementation, and monitor effectiveness.  You will work closely with both our project stakeholders and technical leads to gather user stories and guide the functionality of IT systems across the full software development lifecycle.  You will ensure that our solutions fit appropriately into our information ecosystem.  Applicants should have an agile mindset, focused on solving real business problems and delivering value incrementally. You should be able to work in a fluid environment, and should have a strong desire to pursue creative solutions to challenging problems.

The ideal candidate will satisfy many of the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher, with applicable experience in product management OR business analysis , preferably within a scientific or laboratory environment, especially one that is related to drug development.

  • At least 5 years of experience working as a product manager OR business analyst involved in all phases of the software development process including requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing, release, and maintenance.

  • Enjoys working closely with scientific stakeholders to understand their informatics needs, and subsequently defining complex system requirements, scope, objectives, and key results.

  • Ensure we are bringing the greatest value to our team and our collaborators by working with the team to properly align and prioritize work with our key stakeholders.

  • Engage with scientific stakeholders to understand complex workflows (both ‘as-is’ and ‘to-be’), and harmonize and optimize business processes to reduce the complexity of software solutions.

  • Experience in documenting detailed software requirements, user stories, business processes, and/or software specifications for both custom and Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) systems.

  • Experience working in an agile software development environment.

  • Experience working in a life sciences or biopharmaceutical environment such as early-stage research, drug discovery, or other biological sciences discipline is preferred.

  • Demonstrated success working independently on initiatives of high complexity, uncertainty, and risk.

  • Able to work effectively with globally distributed and cross-functional teams.

  • Able to present your work, both verbally and in writing, to diverse audiences including scientific stakeholders and technical teams.
