In Lead Discovery (LD) we are seeking a committed scientist to join our Mass Spectrometry group.
The LD department in pRED initiates and supports Small Molecule research projects by identifying chemical starting points and by providing key data and insights for their successful optimization in Medicinal Chemistry. We are a tightly-knit community of many and diverse talents, closely collaborating with our therapeutic areas and other functions.
The Mass Spectrometry group designs, develops and utilizes mass spectrometry methods for a large array of applications such as high throughput screening and profiling, detailed investigation of protein-ligand interactions, studying target engagement in vitro and in vivo and to characterize recombinant target proteins.
As a Scientist in the Mass Spectrometry group you:
Conceive, establish and carry out mass spectrometry based assays for lead discovery campaigns, including cell-free, cellular or tissue based assays
Act as project representative for the Lead Discovery department ensuring information exchange with internal and external partners from Medicinal Chemistry, Disease Translational Areas or CROs
Seek and implement internal as well as external technologies, methodologies or platforms to advance the discovery portfolio with a special emphasis on reagent and assay design and data curation
Maintain instruments and laboratory environment according to laboratory best practices and Roche Safety, Healthcare & Environment standards
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a collaborative and creative professional with a Master or equivalent and/or higher degree in biology, chemistry or pharmaceutical sciences and advanced experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
What do you need in your toolbox:
A personal track record and hands-on experience in MS method development ideally covering a broad range of applications for small molecule lead discovery, such as cell-free and cellular assays and the quantification of analytes in samples from biological fluids and tissues to explore disease biology. Experience with MALDI-MS, AffSEC-MS, native MS, and HDX is a plus
A profound experience with the development of cellular and/or cell-free assays, a proven background in pharmacology in general and an understanding of the lead discovery process in the pharmaceutical industry
Excellent scientific, interpersonal and communication skills and you work very effectively and collaboratively in a highly matrixed, global organization
An aptitude and strong interest to continuously learn and develop your skills in order to best support lead discovery campaigns
