Head of DIA Common Assets Delivery Management

Who we are:

Solution Integration & Services develops workflow and IT solutions that integrate diagnostics instruments, software and systems for laboratory diagnostics - and provides global service and support for Roche Diagnostics products and customers. Within that context, DIA Common Assets (DCA) develops - as the name implies - common assets. These assets are in the form of software libraries or development frameworks that can be used to build diagnostics instrument software or lab IT middleware with a focus on reuse, i.e. solve a common problem once and apply the solution many times.

The DIA Common Assets organization is structured according to the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe ⓒ) and consists of several agile release trains (ARTs). The respective Release Train Engineers (RTE) and Scrum Masters (SM) of our ARTs are supporting the ARTs in the delivery. Our Release Train Engineers (RTE), Scrum Masters (SM) and Test Managers are part of the delivery organization within the ART program team, and are furthermore members of the Delivery Management capability organization. The capability has the goal to enable, strengthen and enhance the software delivery management skills within the entire DIA Common Assets organization. Its members (~80 internal / ~70 external) are located in Sant Cugat, Spain and Rotkreuz, Switzerland.

The open position for the Head of DIA Common Assets Delivery Management is leading the delivery management capability with its around 15 team members that are located at two major R&D sites (Rotkreuz, Switzerland and St. Cugat, Spain) 

Your main tasks consist of:

  • Direct and cross-site leadership and line management of the delivery management team

  • Build an effective delivery management capability organization – act as a servant leader and grow your people  through coaching and mentoring such that they can deliver in self-organized and self-managed agile release trains (ARTs)

  • Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of the work processes in DCA

  • Overall budget management of the DCA budget

  • Co-create the DCA strategy in the DCA Leadership Team and ensure strategy execution alignment

  • Manage the DCA portfolio in the DCA Leadership Team and the DCA Portfolio Committee

  • Communicate ways of working of DCA to senior management in engineering and business in order to achieve mutual buy-in. 

We are seeking a candidate with many years (10+ years) of R&D experience in industry and more specifically in the software industry. As this is meant to be a servant leadership role, we are looking for a person being able to coach and teach the capability members on the job and has been demonstrating many of the following attributes: 

  • Senior Expert People Leadership experience and personality, with a people focus - coach and servant leader with excellent moderation and facilitation skills

  • Sense for effectiveness and efficiency in product development - ensures sense of urgency and ensures things get done

  • Visionary & strategic mindset 

  • Excellent networker and influencer 

  • Senior moderation and facilitation skills are required to align the diverging goals of our stakeholders based on facts and business needs

  • Very good understanding of the end to end software development process as well as agile principles and methodologies, ideally knowledge of Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)

  • Excellent verbal and written English skills. Good verbal command of German or Spanish is a plus.

  • University or higher technical college (e.g. Fachhochschule) degree in Engineering or equivalent

  • Experience in R&D in the medical technology domain is a plus

  • Willingness to travel (around 8-10 times per year)  to Sant Cugat or Rotkreuz
