The Senior Marketing Strategist develops and implements Genentech’s corporate brand marketing strategy to ensure awareness and understanding of Genentech with our key corporate audiences, track perceptions and drive proactive reputation-building campaigns. This role, which reports to the Head of Corporate Communications & Brand, will engage with employees at all levels of the company, including internal business partners and stakeholders in the Officer and C-Suite communities. It’s an intense, fast-paced and influential role within a fun, experienced and high-energy team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements corporate brand marketing strategy to raise awareness and understanding of Genentech with our target audiences.

  • Develops and drives positive, brand reputation-building campaigns and associated strategies and tactics including, corporate advertising, sponsorships, etc.

  • Manages marketing agencies and other vendors to create inspiring, innovative storytelling.

  • Collaborates closely with external communications colleagues, global Roche counterparts and other internal stakeholders to ensure complete alignment of brand marketing campaigns with business and communications priorities.

  • Measures perceptions of target audiences and applies learnings to future strategies, campaigns and tactics to improve awareness, understanding and perceptions.

  • Partners with Digital team within CR to measure and evaluate the impact of our brand marketing efforts and the effectiveness of our communications channels; collaborates closely to evolve and enhance them as needed.

  • Accountable for brand marketing budget


  • Bachelor's degree in relevant communications, marketing or business strategy field


  • 10+ years of brand marketing experience, including significant experience developing and leading the implementation of brand marketing strategies

  • Experience managing cross-functional teams

  • Experience in a science-based or healthcare company is preferred

  • Experience in data analytics and research

  • Experience managing budgets to deliver on communications goals

To be successful the Senior Strategist must have:

  • Exceptional and proven strategic brand marketing skills 

  • Exceptional project management skills and experience managing highly complex marketing campaigns

  • Demonstrated experience and genuine enthusiasm for collaborating and innovating with peers 

  • Thorough knowledge of (or willingness to learn and maintain knowledge of) Genentech's medicines, pipeline and approach to disease, as well as comfort with scientific topics

  • An understanding of (or willingness to learn and maintain knowledge of) important business topics including industry trends, clinical trial design, drug development, regulatory decision making and public policy issues

  • Video production management experience and/or experience guiding the production of visual assets

  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to regularly pivot from creative big-idea generation to nitty-gritty details and back 

  • Excellent judgement and a keen sense of what is timely and culturally relevant

  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing and negotiation skills

  • Ability to work well with people at all levels of an organization, including senior leaders; and work cross-functionally across multiple teams

  • Ability to meet deadlines, work within budgets and balance many priorities

  • Ability to invent and simplify processes

  • Experience and enjoyment of working in fast-moving and agile environments where flexibility is key

  • Demonstrated proactive commitment in evolving communications based on metrics, research and feedback

  • Effective, independent decision-making

  • Detailed understanding of data analytics / research metrics and proficiency using data analysis tools

  • A deep interest in and passion for Genentech’s mission of pursuing groundbreaking science to discover and develop breakthrough medicines for people facing serious diseases.
