The Position

SIS (Solution Integrations and Services) Automation HW & SW Engineering in Rotkreuz develops mechatronic System Components for Lab Automation Solutions. The Department is part of the Business Area SIS, a critical contributor and enabler of our divisional aspiration to realise Integrated Solutions, and to provide integrated diagnostics information anywhere, anytime.

 

As Hardware Architect in Medical Device Development you are a leading engineer in the discipline Automation Hardware with the following main tasks:

  • Interfacing with lead system engineers and software architects in order to determine their (evolving) solution and system needs to be realized in hardware

  • Generating the highest level of hardware requirements (incl. interfaces), based on the user's needs and other constraints such as cost and schedule

  • Performing cost-benefit analyses to determine the best methods or approaches for meeting the hardware requirements; making maximum use of commercial off-the-shelf or already developed components

  • Partitioning large hardware systems into (successive layers of) subsystems and components each of which can be handled by a single hardware engineer or team of engineers

  • Ensuring that maximally robust hardware architecture is developed

  • Generating a set of acceptance test requirements, together with the designers, test engineers and the user, which determine that all high-level hardware requirements have been met, especially for human-computer interfaces

  • Generating products such as sketches, models, an early user's manual, and prototypes to keep the user and the engineers constantly up to date and in agreement on the system to be provided as it is evolving

  • Integration phases planning during the entire development among the hardware developers

  • Creation of technical documentation such as interfaces, architecture and development documents

  • Communication and networking, presentation of results to the project team and stakeholders e.g. Early Development, Operations, Customer Service, Business, System Integration across sites

To be successful in this role (you have to):

  • University education in mechanical engineering

  • At least 7 years of industry experience in interdisciplinary, mechatronic development, experience as hardware architect beneficial

  • Profound knowledge of MCAD systems and Product Data Management (PDM) tools

  • Familiar with principles of Systems Engineering

  • Team player

  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, experience in stakeholder management

  • Experience working in regulated environments such as the medical device industry would be a plus

  • Fluent in English, German beneficial
