Summer Intern - Systems Design

United States, Arizona, Tucson

The Summer @ Roche Intern Program has been developed to provide students with a fun yet rewarding summer through hands-on experience and numerous opportunities to network with other interns as well as employees in the organization. Additionally, we help our students meet their career development and educational goals while potentially building a future with the Roche organization. Leveraging the education you received already, we hope to give you an opportunity to grow and develop with us!
As a member of the Architecture team, whose mission is to design and implement an end to end Solution for our customers, support the architectural definition and performance evaluation of systems/subsystems comprising mechanical, electrical, software and biochemical elements. The team is focused on early development phases to evaluate alternate solutions, select technologies, define system configuration, predict system performance, refine product and technical requirements and develop order-of-magnitude implementation costs/schedule.

The focus of this position is on the analysis and simulation of complex systems used in tissue sample preparation and staining. Activities/assignments can involve fluidics, robotics, software, thermal, electrical, mechanical and/or biochemistry elements. Perform hands-on testing, including evaluations of system error handling, reliability and system performance. Develop simulation models (Matlab/Simulink) for new systems to determine architectural parameters for optimal performance.

  • Participates in the definition of system/subsystem architectures, technologies, components and configurations to meet requirements for new products.
  • Analyses system performance/behavior, including use of software modeling techniques as required.
  • Executes trade-off and feasibility studies, and recommends solution
  • Collaborates across functions, business areas and companies to develop innovative technical solutions
  • Applies advanced engineering knowledge to work
  • Executes experiments; participates in experimental design

Additionally, the selected intern will be asked to participate in various intern activities, which may include workshops with leaders in the organization, our mentor program, and our Poster Symposium among other activities.
