A day in the life - Elliott Twigg
As an undergraduate student at Lancaster University, I began my 12 month placement at Roche in July 2016. Coming from a small town near Manchester, and only ever having part time jobs as a waiter and ticket collector, moving to Brighton and working full time as a finance intern at a multinational company was quite the change in lifestyle. Now it feels like the norm. My colleagues here at the Burgess Hill office made me feel welcome from day one and I now feel like a valuable member of the finance and Diabetes Care team.
I start my day by running the daily sales report for Diabetes Care UK and Ireland and distributing it to over 30 colleagues around the office, from the general manager to the Diabetes Care leadership team to various line managers. The report highlights the sales made the previous working day as well as monthly and yearly figures, which provide valuable information on the company’s financial performance. I also provide relevant financial reports to field staff and Business managers that help them in analyzing and supporting their performance objectives. As a member of Accounts Payable team, I also scan and approve invoices we have received from suppliers, sending them to the shared service center in Budapest to complete the process.
Another part of my role was to be involved in the implementation of the new expense management system and then being part of its operational use, which includes reviewing expenses for approval and responding and acting upon queries we receive in the shared expenses email inbox.
On top of all this, I have joined the company football team and play badminton once a week with various colleagues around the office, which is a great opportunity to meet new people in both Diabetes Care and Diagnostics.
