Hi, my name is Stephan and I’m working as Head of Production Engineering in Instrument Operations in Rotkreuz. I’m originally from Germany and moved to Switzerland 10 years ago. A former colleague of mine had told me about Roche and the opportunities and therefore I decided back then to take the challenge. Actually, my first position was in Finance. However, a former business partner showed me how I could further develop and I took the opportunity to start in Operations.
My team is responsible for ensuring the continuity of our production. This includes troubleshooting on the shop floor, which means that we provide first-level support in case of technical problems. If our devices don’t pass the testing, it is our task to find the cause and to eliminate it. In the event of major challenges, we collaborate with R&D.
We are also passionately driving digitalisation forward. For example, we introduced the Manufacturing Execution System, which is a paperless factory documentation system. All data is stored in the Operations Data Warehouse and is then analysed by data scientists: they try to detect correlations, generate new insights or perform root-cause analysis. They use this data to calculate trends within the statistical process control.
I appreciate being part of this awesome Operations Team.
In Operations, we ensure the supply of our innovative testing solutions to our patients from all around the world. We verify the quality of our devices so that patients can trust in our products. Especially in the current COVID-19 crisis, our Rotkreuz-produced testing solutions contribute to enhancing the worldwide situation. We provide doctors and patients with the power of knowledge, so they can decide on how to proceed.
During my time at Roche, I learn that nothing is impossible. When I started in Finance, I never imagined working in Operations only five years later. Thanks to great support from my team and line managers, I learned to pursue my passion, find my strength and develop my full potential. Roche’s opportunities to change perspectives internally are just awesome.
Another aspect is our unique company culture: our people are our most important resource. We have an atmosphere of trust, respect, and we all support each other. Further, all our people are characterised by extremely high competence levels and motivation, and I enjoy working with them; I appreciate being part of this awesome Operations team.
Roche’s opportunities to change perspectives internally are extraordinary.
