Recruiting at Roche - My Impressions as an Intern

Valerie Mangei (left) is studying psychology at the University of Vienna and is currently completing a 6-month internship in the Recruiting / HR Talent Acquisition department in Penzberg, Greater Munich.

Eva Moosmang (right), HR Talent Acquisition Specialist, is responsible at Roche in Penzberg for hiring students for internships or thesis positions and supports Valerie as her mentor.

On my first day I set off with a lot of curiosity and motivation to Penzberg for the introductory event "Welcome2Roche". Directly I feel welcome here and get a good insight into the company through interesting lectures and a site tour. Around 40 new employees are starting this month with me, with whom I can network directly. I am impressed by the size of the site (around 60 soccer fields) and enthusiastic about the huge range of food offers in the cafeteria.
As an intern in Recruiting / HR Talent Acquisition, a nice team awaits me and I get to know my mentor Eva, with whom I share an office.
During the first period, I learn a lot about the work processes, structures and backgrounds of the corporate group and will soon be able to take on responsibility for my own tasks. These include supporting the entire application process and hiring students who would like to do an internship or write their thesis at Roche. I am in close contact with the applicants and the hiring managers, who I support among other things, with job advertisements, the pre-selection of applicants and appointment coordination.
My varied tasks consist of an administrative and strategic part, with smaller projects always adding new topics. I also take part in meetings with the cross-location team from Mannheim, where I can contribute my own ideas and suggestions. So nothing can be said about making coffee and sorting files (there is a good coffee machine and the files are managed by the PC).
On Wednesday evenings I like to go to the students' “Stammtisch”, which is a great opportunity to get to know other students and moreover, gaining insights into other departments. In addition, Penzberg is not far from Munich and the mountains and lakes invite you to go hiking, swimming and skiing.

So can I recommend Roche and this internship to others?

Definitely! The last 6 months of my internship have not only been a lot of fun, but I have also learned so much and gained valuable experiences that go far beyond the contents of my studies.
