As Head of Site Services at Roche Services & Solutions APAC (RSS APAC), I oversee the building and facility related activities. I am privileged to lead a dedicated team who ensures our colleagues have a conducive environment that enables them to be successful in their respective roles and capacity. As a team, we have created an agile workplace that enhances collaboration, facilitates innovation, promotes networking and encourages knowledge sharing.
Having worked in different industries throughout the past three decades, I would rate my current role at RSS APAC as being the most fulfilling because it is unique and best depicts a great place to work.
At RSS APAC, our people are encouraged to unleash their potential to create an impact for the organisation at every opportunity. By empowering and entrusting our people, they take ownership and can be relied to deliver. As we celebrate diversity and inclusion, we can express ourselves and showcase our individual skills and talent at all times. There is always mutual respect and unity in the way we collaborate and co-create. Our people are enthusiastic and we are rarely short of volunteers who want to share their knowledge and experience.
With the conducive ambiance and facilities available, our people often choose to integrate their work-life in the workplace. After office hours, open collaboration areas transform into fitness centres for our health enthusiasts with an array of activities including weekly yoga, HIIT and Zumba sessions. The teams even continued working out together virtually during the recent movement control order (MCO)!
The recent COVID-19 situation demonstrated our resilience. We stood together as one Roche and continued achieving what we set out to do. From a business continuity plan perspective, we were ready to face the possibilities of working from home during the MCO. Our technology and systems were in place and our people were prepared to take on the challenge, although none of us imagined that it would be over so many months.
Throughout the MCO, our people were continuously connected, engaged and updated. We celebrated both big and small achievements, acknowledged any challenges and creatively worked together towards feasible solutions. We also organised virtual team building activities, learnt more about each other and better understood the personal roles our colleagues played outside work.
We are fortunate that Roche has many resources to help nurture and support our agility growth mindset. Our trained mental health first aiders are also on hand to respond to any colleague who needed someone to lend a listening ear. The positive vibes from our people was and still is incredible.
Furthermore, a newly created department received swift home deliveries of their office equipment and were onboarded virtually. They first set foot in the office after more than four months of interacting online, when the lockdown was eased by the authorities.
Our Site & Facilities team worked closely with the building management team to ensure all SOPs advised by the authorities were applied throughout the workplace and adhered by colleagues who were ready to return to the office. In a recent employee survey, I am delighted that we scored a 90% satisfaction rate in how we managed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
To recognise our people’s contribution and support throughout this extraordinary period, the RSS APAC management team arranged for a token of appreciation consisting of health snacks to be delivered to all employees during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri period. A one-off allowance was also provided for our people to improve their home office ergonomics.
What I have just described are not just words but are evidence of how we are living our core values of Courage, Passion and Integrity. We are all committed to our purpose of “Doing now what patients need next” and together, we make a difference!
