The darkest hour is just before dawn

In between uncertainty, feeling lost, and some hope still lingering, Roche came along like a renewed opportunity that was better aligned to my recruiting experience and personal values.

We all know that 2020 was not the best year to highlight in almost anyone’s life. When a year starts, we have plans and goals in place, both personal and professional. It was like that for me when I decided to change my four-year-long workplace and go into a more challenging job. Suddenly, COVID-19 came, and I got laid off from my recent new job, which I had planned with excitement.

In between uncertainty, feeling lost, and some hope still lingering, Roche came along like a renewed opportunity that was better aligned to my recruiting experience and personal values.

The first match you go through when starting a new job is responsibilities vs. capabilities. Still, having worked at Roche for nearly a year now, I find this alignment with hard skills less relevant as it is finding a good match between my values and those of the company I work for.

I feel that I belong to this place because of our shared values and the trust colleagues have in me. I started working from home and having the freedom to walk my dog during lunchtime because my leaders trust my commitment while guiding me to work more effectively.

As a recruiter, I enjoy what I do because I learn a lot from different areas in the company. When I interview people, I run into outstanding professionals, and I learn a lot by listening to them. Also, I feel my job is crucial in making the company grow with individuals who share the same values.

My job is to serve as a bridge between talented candidates looking for innovative ways of working, learn every day, and a place to grow and enjoy while making patients’ lives better around the world.

Being a Roche employee is something that influences your day-to-day and moves you to reimagine your future. We have several options where we can develop our next career step. While I decide on mine, I signed up for Portuguese lessons. As we support multiple countries, I know that having additional languages will improve my ability to communicate beyond borders and impact more lives.

Despite the complications 2020 had, life always took care of me and brought Roche to my life.
