Meet Solmaz Sohrabi

CMO (Contract Manufacturing Organization) Quality Site Manager

Tell us about yourself.

I was born and raised in Iran and I have always been fascinated with science, chemistry in particular, although literature and archaeology were my first interests. I decided to pursue a career in healthcare and graduated as pharmacist in 2007. After a few years of retail work, I joined the pharmaceutical industry in a regulatory and quality capacity, which was a turning point in my career. My move to Canada has been a milestone for me both at a personal and professional level.

Favorite Quote: “Never stop dreaming of a better tomorrow.”

Favorite book: I am in love with Russian literature, War & Peace, Bronte Sisters; Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights.

Favourite movie: Good Will Hunting.

What is your current position at Roche Canada?

Quality site manager in Pharma Technical external quality. I provide quality and compliance oversight for Roche products manufactured at contract manufacturing organizations.

How do you demonstrate agility in your role?

I am a strong believer that if we want to achieve different results than what we have delivered so far, then we should be doing some (if not many) things differently. Agility is that different way of working.

What can you tell us about your work environment?

I am a healthcare professional by training and when I joined the pharmaceutical industry, some of my peers would tell me that I joined the “dark side”. Ten years into this profession, I can confidently say that the innovation by the pharmaceutical industry is an integral part of patients’ well-being.

What would you advise job seekers who want to join us?

At Roche you will not just have a job, you will have a career that is patient-centric, evolving and gives you an opportunity to grow.

Why did you decide to join Roche?

The prospect of future growth in my role (which turned out true since I started in Good Pharmacovigilance Practice (GVP), learned about Good Clinical Practice (GCP), later Good Distribution Practice (GDP) and I am now in Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)).

What can you tell us about the current job openings in your department?

Our Quality System and site management teams are growing; these areas are focused on quality assurance and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) compliance.

How would you describe the people working here?

My colleagues come from diverse educational backgrounds, mostly Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), but they all have one thing in common - they are passionate about positively impacting patients' lives.
