Field Application Specialist - Next Generation Sequencing (West)

Roche is seeking an enthusiastic, people-oriented, Field Applications Scientist (FAS) to provide technical expertise and education to new and existing customers of our NGS (Next Generations Sequencing) product portfolio. The primary role of this position is to partner with sales and support teams in serving as the scientific/technical expert to help drive sales and provide support for customers. Technical expertise in Next-Generation Sequencing applications is required and knowledge of NGS data analysis, and qPCR-based applications is highly preferred. The successful applicant will report to the FAS Manager, Sample Prep and will have the following responsibilities:
• Provide expert knowledge of products and applications to customers, with the goal of providing consultative scientific support, e.g. assisting with product selection, experimental design, workflow optimization, etc.
• Coordinate with Sales to provide customers with the scientific and product support necessary to accelerate the sales process, increase success rates of product evaluation and provide continued post-sale technical support e.g. troubleshooting.
• Extensive local and regional travel (50-80% of the time) to work in the field (supporting the West Coast region) with Sales Specialists, attending meetings with key customers, providing training in and assisting with the evaluation of NGS methods and presenting scientific seminars and technical presentations.
• Report on activities in the field on a regular basis to upper management.
• Develop customer-facing seminars participate in the ongoing training of the Support & Applications team.
• Respond to technical inquiries from customers received by phone and e-mail, while proactively partnering with the Sales and internal Support team.
• Monitor technical trends and provide feedback on competitive landscape, conceptualization of product extensions, product positioning and application development to Applications Manager and Product Managers.
• Participate in national trade shows.

• A BS degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or appropriate Biological or Biomedical Science field.
• Advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of Next Generation Sequencing including sample preparation workflows and target capture (3+ years).
• Customer-facing experience is highly recommended.

• Requires flexibility in working hours and availability to travel for business 50-80%.
