The technical lead role is a techno-functional strategic role focused on helping business stakeholders make technology choices and leads an agile team in delivering value from those choices. This role reports to the Chapter Section Lead for Architecture and Emerging Technologies supporting the Workplace and Employee Experience Team. The Workplace and Employee Experience Team is responsible to support Corporate Functions (Legal,People and Culture, Site Services, Corp Relations etc.) at Genentech, deliver End User Technology (Devices, Software Deployment etc.) and provide a smooth employee experience via technology.


As a Technical Lead you will:

  • Understand business drivers and processes.

  • Understand the existing landscape and provide suggestions or solutions for modifications to systems to improve efficiency, and reduce total cost of ownership.

  • Set up a practice of continuous development and deployment.

  • Lead delivery of technical solutions for portfolio of projects with in the team.

  • Provide hands-on leadership to our data engineers and software developers to design and develop solutions on AWS.

  • Responsible for the technical oversight and leadership of outside vendors and international software developers working on the solutions that you own.

  • Develop technology strategy, architecture, and roadmap for solutions within Genentech’s Corporate Function IT Team.

  • Provide application integration and solution support working collaboratively with business partners to achieve their strategic goals.

  • Manage the successful implementation and delivery of solution releases, possibly spanning multiple parallel tracks.

  • Collaborates with internal and external teams to leverage cloud platforms.

  • Keeps track of industry and cutting-edge technology trends, connect and foster external networking opportunities to look for new and innovative ways to do business differently.

  • Help instill agile product/DevOps mindset within the service delivery teams.

  • Track progress, resolve dependencies, evaluate risks and communicate status to management and business stakeholders.


  • BS in Computer Science.

  • 5+ years of experience in developing and managing software solutions.

  • Expert level experience with SQL, Python, Spark/Scala.

  • Experience with multiple AWS services including but not limited to: S3 data lake, IAM roles provision and management, My SQL, Aurora, RDS, Redshift, DynamoDB, Kinesis data streams, Kinesis data firehose, SNS, Cloudwatch, Cloudformation, Route53, Cloudfront, Lambda etc.

  • Excellent knowledge of data modeling and data structures.

  • Experience developing ETL in AWS glue, Talend, Informatica etc.

  • Good experience with multiple data sharing formats including APIs, micro services, file sharing etc.

  • Experience delivering data to visualization tools such as Tableau, Quicksight is required.

  • Experience with ML services like SageMaker, Jupyter notebooks a huge plus.

  • Experience operationalizing AWS solutions, Kubernetes, Dockers and containers.

  • Implementing advanced monitoring and alerting solution using ELK/Open Search Service.

  • Experience in designing Serverless Web Applications.

  • Ability to troubleshoot across layers of the technology stack.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills to work with leadership and stakeholders in executing the vision and providing content and best practices on using CI/CD services.

  • Ability to leverage his/her experience in delivering and supporting global information systems in an environment for a diverse and distributed user base while relying on a number of global/enterprise shared services.

  • Continuous improvement mindset with ability to learn quickly and solve problems.

  • Knowledge of Single Sign On (SSO), reverse proxy, firewall, servers and load balancer technologies including the new server less technology.

  • Familiarity with frontend technologies - Angular, Javascript, HTML, CSS, JQuery a huge plus.

  • Familiarity / experience with the following technologies and solutions:Mobility, Analytics, digitization, digital health, reporting, visualization tools and presentation along with Machine Learning and AI Concepts.

This position is not eligible for relocation.

For Colorado-based applicants, the expected salary range for this position is $114,450.00 - $212,550.00 . Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits listed below.
