SUMMARY

The Sr. Principal Global Reliability Manufacturing Engineer, reporting directly to the VP of Pharma Technical Operations Asset Lifecycle Management and Sustainability, is a member of the Global Engineering and Facilities team who will strategize, plan, lead and operationalize bold visionary initiatives designed to maximize asset performance in collaboration with partners from all manufacturing sites. The impact associated with this role is in support of the investments of $1.8B towards the advancement of Roche’s complex drug pipeline and ongoing operational costs of $1.3B. This necessitates senior leadership and expert capabilities in realization of our ambitions towards COGS reduction and sustainability goals. This role is responsible for providing the technical program leadership and implementation activities to maximize the maintenance related uptime and operating efficiencies of equipment and facility assets.

Responsibilities

  • Strategize and execute periodic analysis of assets data and prioritize efforts to increase site capacity and gain efficiencies. Identify and manage asset and system reliability risks and mitigate to increase uptime, minimize production losses and reduce operating costs by utilizing tools such as FMEA, RCA, and Criticality Analysis.

  • Collaborate with cross functional teams (site Engineering, Maintenance, and system/asset owners etc.) to analyze and improve Asset Utilization, Overall Equipment Effectiveness, Maintenance Cost, Remaining Useful Life and other parameters.

  • Professionally and systematically define, design, develop, monitor and refine an assets maintenance plan that includes value-added preventive maintenance tasks for all sites globally . Effectively utilize predictive methodologies designed to identify and isolate inherent reliability problems

  • Conduct root cause analysis of repetitive problems and investigate equipment failures. Plan, propose and gain concurrence from sites for changes to the equipment maintenance plan and need for replacement.

  • Influencing Facilities & Engineering, Environment Health & Safety communities at manufacturing sites to engage, develop and maintain regular and standard reliability and maintenance metrics. Create a dashboard for monthly review and continuous improvement by outlining actions, projects and capex requirements in partnership with sites.

  • Build and lead Global Reliability community with members across all sites to enable consistency and share learnings across the network.

  • Define, implement, maintain reliability standards and business processes supporting all manufacturing sites

  • Participate in the development of criteria for and evaluation of equipment and technical MRO suppliers and technical maintenance service providers

  • Support internal & external regulatory audits, CAPA’s and Deviation Reports activities

  • Enhance and evangelize the vision for Asset Lifecycle Management (ALCM) and Sustainability globally among leaders, employees, and other stakeholders.

  • Develop structure to keep multiple initiatives moving forward concurrently. Create systematic methods for stakeholder engagement and communication on progress and results of initiatives. 

  • Positively influence all levels of management, including SVP and PTA LT, to ensure activities receive the necessary support and are resourced sufficiently to implement solutions. Serve as facilitator and champion for Agile ways of working.

  • Build relationships with PTA LT members, PTA-extended LT, and other PT network site leadership teams and serve as a trusted adviser for Asset performance methodologies and adoption.

  • Continually challenge the status quo and persistently identify improvement opportunities.

  • Support the culture of continuous improvement by identifying activities, projects and initiatives and obtaining customer or senior leadership support as needed for process improvement activities that have the greatest impact on the pharma vision.

Qualifications - Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent; Business and/or Engineering degree is preferred.

  • 12+ years of relatable work experience in leading reliability engineering, preventive maintenance, asset management programs for manufacturing facility management is required. 10+ years with Masters. 7+ years with PhD.

  • Must possess knowledge of the core engineering principles: heat transfer, mass transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics.

  • Must be able to work in controlled environments requiring special gowning and protective gear.

  • Familiarity with Biotechnology manufacturing operations (purification, filling, packaging, etc.), water purification systems, plant utilities (HVAC, Boilers, Chillers, etc.) is required.

  • Demonstrated track record of success in multiple complex projects and/or programs as well as management. Strong program/project management skills within a diverse tool-set of methodologies (Lean, Agile, Scrum, etc.) including risk mitigation strategies.

  • Certified in lean, with demonstrated flexibility to work in a self-aligning team environment where independent decision making and creative mindsets are valued.

  • Experience developing strategic roadmaps and plans, and driving them through implementation.

  • Possess strong analytical skills with ability to derive business insights, articulate business initiatives/opportunities and synthesize recommendations.

  • Ability to navigate through a complex, broad, and diverse organization and can liaise effectively with different organizations.

  • Exhibits intellectual curiosity and integrity and has a strong passion to bring value-adding improvement/innovation to the business.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead cross-functional teams and serve as a strategic consultant and advisor with senior leadership, particularly leaders driving change.

  • Strong executive presence and resonant communications at all levels - experience framing communications to fit the audience.

  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, think proactively and strategically. Experienced working in a matrix, global organization. Ability to deliver results in an ambiguous, complex global network.

  • Willing to travel globally as needed. Strong skills in facilitating virtual teams and leveraging technology to ensure productive virtual meetings and workshops.

Travel Requirements:

Anticipated domestic and international travel: 10%-20%.
