The RPF Programme has the ambition to build and maintain the Scientific Leadership of the future and to provide leading Roche scientists with the opportunity to collaborate with talented postdoctoral researchers, and leading academic research groups, from around the world. One of the key aims is to advance basic science and technologies that will be published in top-rated, peer-reviewed scientific journals if necessary preceded by priority patent applications.

The position

We are seeking a highly motivated and creative scientist to join the Genomic Medicine and Synthetic Biology programs within the department of Therapeutic Modalities at Roche. The focus of the position is to build and develop novel therapeutic approaches in the gene therapy space. In a highly cross-functional and collaborative environment, you will be able to explore and contribute to the engineering of next generation gene therapies. The environment is exciting, fast-paced and offers the opportunity to work and publish at the cutting edge of molecular engineering research.

The duration of the RPF project is initially set for two years, with the possibility of extension for a third year. This position is sponsored by the Roche Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme. You will be based in Basel (Switzerland).


Who you are

You hold a PhD in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry or related discipline within the fields of RNA biology, functional genomics or gene editing. In addition, you have expertise in the following:

  • Cell culture, cell engineering, assay development, and molecular biology methods

  • Functional genomics (CRISPR/Cas9 or shRNA screens) is highly preferred

  • Gene editing methods and/or RNA interference is highly preferred

  • NGS methods (library construction and bioinformatics analysis) is desirable

  • Viral gene delivery methods (lentivirus, AAV, etc) is desirable

  • Demonstrated skills in designing and performing scientific experiments in hypothesis-driven research, and in establishing innovative techniques

  • Proven record of scientific publications

  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills are required

Furthermore, you have very good interpersonal and communication skills, are able to build good working relationships and are an outstanding teammate. Your experience and investigative attitude allow you to work independently to design, perform, and interpret experiments, and to embark on new scientific methodologies.
You have been actively engaged in scientific research continuously since your PhD and ready to start an RPF postdoctoral activity no later than 4 years after PhD completion.
