Knowledge Management Expert - PM/BSA/Leader of cross functional NLP initiative

We are looking for Knowledge Management (KM) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) professionals with a keen interest in delivering and supporting advanced capabilities at the interface of the Computer- and Life Sciences.

This position is part of a global the Pharma Technical Development (PTD) function, that applies leading technical expertise to bridge early-stage, late-stage and commercial product needs. Technical Development has several thousand employees on major sites across the globe.
Reporting to the Global Head of Knowledge Management, the position will be accountable for helping define and execute the knowledge and data management strategy for PTD. KM has a global team that develops and drives crucial capabilities to hold on to our knowledge in an agile word. The KM team is run as a tech-start-up, yet we are measured by the thousands of users benefiting from our innovation in Roche and ultimately the real world.
The individual will be a key member of a recently launched AI/NLP initiative, an advanced insight service layered around an established semantic platform. The platform offers automated insight generation and interactive exploration across very large information sources for thousands of users. The individual will lead cross-functional teams that address specific use-cases in production - not PoCs. All our project teams follow the agile method in alignment with a very large IT organization, jointly with various Digital Transformation groups and technology vendors.
The individual will lead cross-functional teams and networks of technical experts to deliver state-of-the-art services, semantics and tools within a very complex environment. The individual will serve as an advocate, mentor, and role model for integrating professional insight services, deliver against a dynamic roadmap and conflicting use-case priorities, drive proper governance and address highly advanced AI/ML/NLP technology challenges. The expert will lead and execute a wide range of KM activities. The work will be accomplished through cross-functional teams and networks of technical experts across functions. The expert will serve as an advocate, mentor, and role model for integrating Knowledge Management in the organization. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape and influence how quickly Technical Development delivers new medication to our patients. The expert has responsibility for a number of related roles, such as, the local Records Management Coordinator who develops and implements appropriate records management practices in alignment with other functions. Specifically, the KM Expert will
Lead cross-functional KM projects and teams, and manage high investment technical change initiatives globally within a start-up environment.
Provide implementation, operational and administrative support for KM projects, and drive innovative & valuable solutions with colleagues / initiatives.
Jointly lead with other team members use-case staffing, roadmap creation, and communication.
Immediate project priorities include governance and continued development of KM capabilities impacting thousands of users. As change manager you will engage with partners across all PTD departments, Legal, PT and IT to lead governance, operations and change board.
Establish and maintain effective communication and collaborations with scientists, internal specialists, and stakeholders, acting as a change agent to deliver business results.
Collaborate with other experts across the KM & Digital Transformation networks.
Influence across a network of resources and communicate proactively at all levels of the business with stakeholders and senior management globally.
Coach and mentor others on the application knowledge management practices.
Identify, hire and manage external consulting experts as appropriate.
Who you are
Based out of our major sites in Basel, Mississauga, Penzberg or South San Francisco. Given the cross-functional and global nature of our work, this role will require a high degree of flexibility, quick learning, and exceptional teamwork and collaboration skills with all levels of the organization. M.S. or PhD. in Computer Science or equivalent degree, with 5 to 10 years of experience of related analytical, business and operational experience in R&D / Manufacturing or like discipline.
Experience in business analysis, requirement gathering, project definition and detailed functional requirements and business rules (use cases). Also, practical experience managing change processes and / or knowledge management and / or information technology projects.
Actual practical understanding of current AI/ML/NLP technologies, their strengths and tradeoffs.
Curiosity, humor and the ability to operate independently with a positive attitude against seemingly insurmountable odds.
Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
