As Sr. Director of U.S. External Communications, you will be responsible for enhancing and protecting Roche’s external presence in the U.S. You will partner with other U.S. based Roche organizations and ensure strategic alignment with Global Corporate Communications. 

In this role, you will provide strategic direction and manage a team focused on public relations, community relations and media relations. Individual will serve as an expert in external communications and act as a resource for internal stakeholders across the enterprise.  

Under the direction of Vice President, Communications, U.S., Sr. Director of U.S. External Communications will work directly with CEO and other C-suite executives to align external communications strategy and goals to overall business strategy. Develops and enforces overall corporate brand strategy. Works with digital teams to align messaging and strategy across all external platforms.

Develops, implements and coordinates public relations strategies for Roche in the U.S. with special focus on Indianapolis site, with the goal of establishing and maintaining a favorable image of the company with news media, investors, potential customers, employees and the public. Acts as the corporate spokesperson to the media and general public at large. Develops and implements approach for crisis/issues management. Provides strategic counsel, media training and media communications in support of all business areas and Roche Diagnostics Operations. Consults with Roche Diabetes Care Inc. senior leadership on communications that impact the site

The Opportunity:

  • Sets the strategy and vision for external communications for Roche Diagnostics U.S. in partnership with the Vice President, Communications, U.S.

  • Leads and develops a team of communications professionals focused on external communications.

  • Oversees the development and implementation of communications strategies focused on developing and sharing an external narrative that speaks to the role that Roche Diagnostics is playing in healthcare in the U.S.

  • Lead the development of external relations strategy focused on the Indianapolis area. 

  • Areas of focus include media relations, crisis/issues management and external thought leadership programming

  • Partners with other Roche U.S. based organizations and Global organization to ensure Roche is best positioned in the U.S. 

  • Works in close collaboration with Access and Government Affairs team to enhance and protect corporate reputation among government related stakeholders. 

  • Works with other Roche U.S. based communication leads to anticipate issues and mitigate risks.

  • Partners with Digital Communications teams to develop a content strategy for external facing channels including external facing website and social media channels

Who you are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field with 10-15 years communications, marketing communications or related business experience.

  • 5-7 years of previous management or supervisory experience.

  • Experience in the healthcare industry preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

  • Proven ability in working with and advising C-suite executives.

  • Solid corporate and business knowledge.

  • Excellent leadership qualities, including motivating others, team building, and credibility.

  • Proven ability to effectively manage external communications with media relations and public affairs experience.

  • Team player that enjoys building partnerships at all levels within an organization.

  • Demonstrated ability in prioritizing multiple projects

  • Minimum 10 years of professional communications experience preferred
