Reporting directly to the Head of pRED, Dr. William Pao, we are seeking an SVP, Global Head of the Oncology Discovery and Translational Area (DTA) unit (“DTA Oncology pRED”) who will have the strategic and operational leadership for this important disease area. This senior vice president will be responsible for crafting and implementing the strategic and operational oncology R&D plans in alignment with the overall R&D plan. The executive will lead all aspects of the organization and influence new technologies and science. The executive should be a forward-thinking leader ready to develop an outstanding Oncology research and early development organization that delivers extraordinary science and a rich pipeline of products for the benefit of the patients of the world. The DTA Oncology group has approximately 270 scientists across 4 sites (Munich, Zurich, Basel, and Welwyn).

Given the importance of Oncology for Roche, the Head of DTA Oncology pRED will be a globally visible position who is regularly called upon to represent Roche regarding its science and pipeline to the external world.

Candidate profile

This position is clearly one of the most senior and impactful Oncology research roles in the pharmaceutical industry, where there will be an immense opportunity to positively affect human health. The ideal candidate will be a top leader in the field of Oncology research and early development, bringing an impressive and significant track record of publications, drug development success and/or thought leadership, either from academia or industry. The executive will have a global attitude with the ability to work effectively in highly international and diverse multi-cultural organizations of a significant size. An MD or MD/PhD is preferred.

This person has a track record of encouraging and overseeing, multiple successful relationships across academic institutions and industry partners, specifically for early discovery alliances.

  • Strategic/ Innovative Thinking – The candidate will demonstrate the ability to articulate evolving priorities and technologies/targets and strategies for oncology treatment within a long term horizon and will encourage and focus his/her organization.

Location

The role will be based in Basel, Switzerland and will, when more routine travel resumes, require extensive travel to multiple company sites including South San Francisco, CA.
