Who we are and what we do:
Our vision is to deliver breakthrough medicines for unmet medical needs. To this end, we discover and develop novel therapeutic antibodies and next generation biologics, such as bispecific antibodies, antibody conjugates or AAV based therapeutics. The department of Biochemistry belongs to a unit called Large Molecule Research within Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED).
We are looking for a new department head with a keen interest in the fields of drug discovery and development who will lead a team of about 25 scientists and research associates. Our people are dedicated to the analytical characterization of drug candidates using biophysical analytical methods.
Our ambition is to create an empowered and diverse environment that fosters curiosity and disruptive thinking to improve R&D productivity. We are therefore also looking for someone who will drive our cultural transformation: in particular, we want to build a community where everybody is actively taking full accountability for the creation of new medicines.
The job in a nutshell:
Leadership position in a fast-paced environment and rapidly changing R&D organization.
Key focus of this position and key responsibilities:
You will champion the cultural transformation of the department where we count on every employee to encourage experimentation across the organisation
You are responsible for the strategic leadership of the unit’s Biochemistry department. In this context, your department develops suitable methods for therapeutic protein characterization including chromatographic and capillary methods, high concentration testing and developability assessments
You will lead the department’s digital transformation of analytical workflows including high throughput data analysis
You will closely collaborate with Pharma Technical Development (PTD) for the transition of projects from research to early development
You are part of the unit’s extended leadership team, which shapes and implements Large Molecule Research strategy
Who you are:
You are enthusiastic about leading people, driving change and strategic thinking in an R&D environment. You have the courage to constantly challenge the status quo. Furthermore, you are able to deal with ambiguity and uncertainty.
You have at least eight years of experience in R&D (pharmaceutical industry or biotechnology) in a leadership position with a proven track record of building a creative and motivating work environment
Furthermore you have Experience with change initiatives and change management with a focus on cultural and digital transformation
You are recognized as a team player who cares about people
In addition, you are able to focus on the big picture and you can easily align the goals for your area of responsibility with the overall strategy
You have a professional way of interacting with internal and external stakeholders
Besides, you like to question the status quo and adopt new approaches by leading major change initiatives
A Ph.D.-level degree in Biology, Biochemistry or Chemistry
At least 5 years of experience in drug development
Profound knowledge of functional protein characterization in a R&D environment
Outstanding communication and presentation skills in English (written and spoken)
