As Regional Category Manager (RCM) Logistics & Supply Chain Strategy, you are part of the Logistics & Supply Chain organization within Direct Pharma Procurement (DPP), a sub-organization of Roche Global Procurement (GP), and you will be accountable for delivering Procurement values while selecting and managing suppliers providing supply chain services for Roche.  

Global Procurement (GP) is a key group function that delivers value to Roche by leveraging market knowledge, subject matter expertise and business insights in the procurement of goods and services and the management of Roche’s third party spend. Through collaboration with our external suppliers and internal business partners, GP helps bring innovative tests and medicines to patients.

As the Regional Category Manager in Logistics & Supply Chain Strategy, you are responsible for developing and executing a Global Category Strategy, leading strategic sourcing initiatives and projects together with SMEs from Pharma Technical Operations (PT) of Roche, executing on strategic initiatives on a global basis to deliver on saving targets and other KPIs, leading complex contract negotiations and executing the Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) process as Key Account for specific suppliers in your region and in alignment with the global logistics strategy. You will conduct business partnering activities with specific senior functional stakeholders of Roche, as well as executive managers of suppliers in your area of responsibility.

Thanks to your strong leadership, communication, and influencing skills, you ensure stakeholder alignment and support to deliver value through the implementation of Category Strategies and initiatives. You further establish effective working relationships with local and regional procurement, global Category management Team and PT functional stakeholders to ensure alignment and the full realization of the benefits of the Category Strategy.

Your responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the creation and application of a Business-aligned long-term end-to-end Supply Chain Strategy, and the development of an annual pipeline of strategic category initiatives.

  • management of the initiative intake and member of the established procurement productivity council for supply chain.

  • Execute Category initiatives and ensure responsibility for the delivery and reporting of savings targets.

  • Develop, negotiate, support and manage global contracts with suppliers in line with the Logistics/ Supply Chain Category Strategy, to ensure uninterrupted supply to Roche and its patients, whereas these contracts can be of complex nature (impacting several sites, several manufacturing platforms, licensing agreements and/or several products) and require direct Senior Management engagement both internal as well as external.

  • Understanding business priorities and challenges and ensuring successful realization of the Category Strategy by building strong partnerships across geographically dispersed stakeholders and engaging with local and regional Procurement and PT functions.

  • Develop and implement regional SRM programs for suppliers in order to continuously improve the performance of the suppliers, as well as executing on cost-optimization projects with these suppliers to get more efficiency and agility, in close collaboration with the PT functional SMEs and Global Category Management Team..

  • Support key PT projects as Procurement SME and lead activities in Direct Pharma Procurement in the Supply Chain Category

Your qualification:

  • University degree, with business or life sciences degree preferable.

  • 7+ years in-depth strategic and/or operational procurement experience with extensive knowledge of category management and advanced strategic sourcing evaluation, complex contract negotiations with subject matter expertise in Pharma Supply Chain; and/or operational management of suppliers to the Pharma Industry.

  • In-depth knowledge of supplier landscape in logistics industry 

  • Excellent communication and project management skills with an ability to lead and coordinate cross-functional teams and deliver complex strategic initiatives, in a truly global, fluid, interactive environment.

  • Proven financial and business acumen and capability in negotiation, change management and stakeholder management.

  • Business level fluency in English (a second language desirable)

  • Process-oriented with strong analytical skills and creative problem solving capabilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, influencing and persuasion skills

  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency and proactive approach that is results focused

  • Thorough knowledge of the business, markets, regulations in the biopharmaceutical industry

  • Through knowledge of transportation, warehousing, shipping solutions, monitoring technology and logistics market

  •  International experience and market knowledge preferred

  • Skilled in Strategy Development and all Procurement processes and disciplines including spend and category management

  • Command of the Strategic Sourcing Process

  • Ability to work across multiple sites, cultures and matrix/virtual teams

  • Knowledgeable in innovation techniques and process improvement (six sigma)


Industry-specific knowledge, skills & abilities (highly desirable):

  • Knowledge about the pharmaceutical industries and the main driver and trends

  • Knowledge about cGMP, Sustainability and SH+E

  • well-established network of personal contacts with decision makers in external manufacturing industries, in particular in new modalities manufacturing.
