Job Knowledge & Scope
General responsibilities include directing a team of mammalian expression staff and interact with colleagues in Cell Culture, protein engineering, molecular biology and structural biology groups to deliver diverse protein reagents for research programs. In depth knowledge and experience with state-of-the-art transient and stable expression methods is required. Extensive knowledge of cell biology, cell engineering, and automation is preferred. Set long-range strategies for technology development, including intellectual property management to ensure freedom to operate. Prioritize resourcing for process and technology development programs, and set multi-year strategies for long-term advancement of research material generation.
Minimal direct supervision needed. This position reports to a Cell Culture Senior Group Leader.
Define work packages/processes and planning for group. Address product quality or process consistency gaps, or technical issues that could delay project timelines.
Foster close collaborations with technical & project leadership to support the project pipeline. Ensure successful and efficient project handoffs between research & development colleagues. Must influence and align with members of external departments on technical issues that can affect research programs. Collaborate with multiple groups to integrate and advance technology development. Act as a subject matter expert within and outside of the company.
Direct management of staff (approximately 5), including post-doctoral staff.
Qualifications & Experience
Doctorate, Masters or Bachelors Degree (life sciences, chemical engineering or related disciplines)
10 or more years cell culture development experience
5 or more years previous management experience
