Summary

  • Provides strategic direction, leadership and oversight for all medical activities connected to the development and execution of relevant medical plans in specific disease areas
  • Proactively contributes to creation of an environment of excellence and innovation entire across affiliation – with primary focus on Medical Affairs

  • Represents Roche externally through scientific engagement with key external clinical experts in the assigned disease areas

Position responsibilities

  • Develop and lead a highly motivated and well-trained team with an objective- and performance-led culture and ensure skilled staff and services in place to support execution of strategic and operational plans.
  • Support the individual professional development of all direct reports and their individual performance.
  • In collaboration with Medical Director and other functions within the Medical department and entire affiliate (e.g. HR), regional team and Global, lead and implement people development initiatives, in line with Roche competencies framework and medical competencies requirements (Eagle).
  • Build excellent cross-functional relationships and interactions between Medical and other affiliate teams (marketing, sales etc.), other Roche Affiliates and Global functions.
  • Participate in strategic decisions and contribute/lead strategic projects for medical department, together with other team leads and medical director, fostering collaboration and alignment with regulatory, safety, clinical operations and other relevant medical areas (as applicable).
  • Facilitate relevant scientific and technical knowledge exchange between disease areas and create a holistic medical strategic approach, aligned with overall company direction and business strategy.
  • Contribute to the creation of an environment for continuous best practice sharing, learning and improving within medical team and beyond (as relevant).
  • Responsible for the overall budget/resources allocated to the team in order to meet objectives and targets.
  • Act as an ambassador, both internally and externally, for Roche s.r.o. and medical affairs organization.
  • In close collaboration with Medical Director and other functions within medical department and affiliate, build a culture of medical excellence and innovation, supported by appropriate assignments, resourcing and projects.
  • Foster innovation in all aspects of strategic and operational medical work by building the appropriate mindset, skills and competencies.
  • Ensure excellence and innovation become embedded in the way of working and thinking of the medical team.
  • Execution of Disease area strategy and Medical Plans.
  • External expert’s engagement plan, strategy and tactics.
  • HR decisions for direct reports.

Experience, skills, knowledge:

  • University degree (Med MD, PhD/PharmD )
  • Professional experience in medical affairs in pharmaceutical company for minimum 3 years
  • Previous experience in both Affiliate and Global/ Regional roles is an advantage
  • Sound knowledge of the overall drug development process relevant to pharmaceutical/biotechnology organizations
  • Experience in development and implementation of clinical trials
  • Experience in the principles and techniques of data analysis, interpretation, and clinical relevance
  • Experience of writing clinical publications and delivery of scientific presentations desired
  • Relationships with external TAEs, other thought leaders, and external organizations is strongly preferred
  • In depth knowledge of ICH, GCP and local regulations
  • Appreciates the diversity of working with cross functional teams
  • Previous experience in leading innovative projects highly desired
