Job Summary

Oversees and directs the development, planning, implementation and maintenance of manufacturing methods, processes and operations for new or existing products and technologies. Works closely with quality groups to ensure strict compliance with good manufacturing practices guidelines at all times. Prepares documentation, reports and standard operating procedures as required. Ensures the effective use of materials, equipment and employees in producing quality products. May monitor and control labor and capital expenditures. Assists in developing budgets. Formulates and recommends manufacturing policies, procedures and programs. Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.


•Completes production plan by establishing priorities, scheduling material and labor requirements, monitoring progress, monitoring inventories, revising schedules and resolving problems.

•Assists in the development of production quality standards, methods, policies and procedures through studying product requirements, obtaining R&D and Manufacturing Technologies consultation, and determining equipment and departmental needs.

•Supports corporation in obtaining financial objectives by preparing departmental budgets, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, compiling and studying costs, preparing capital justifications and managing budget and spending.

•Responsible for capacity planning and attainment to forecasted sales.

•Ensures continual production operation by establishing preventative maintenance schedules, contracting outside services where necessary, maintaining equipment and evaluating and implementing new equipment and processes.

•Responsible for publishing key performance metrics, analyzing and developing and executing plans for improvement.

•Responsible for identification of root cause and corrective actions related to quality performance.

•Assists in the development and implementation of improved production processes through monitoring and observation of current systems and experimental review and validation of new systems. Review projected growth requirements and develops plans to meet requirements through investigating new equipment and processes within the industry.

•Assists in the technical transfer of new products by participating in Design Review and Product Development Meetings, developing timelines, assisting technically, monitoring progress and reviewing documentation and final project reports.

•Ensures compliance and enforcement of GMP/QSR and Safety guidelines and policies in all areas of responsibility.

•Establishes an organized departmental structure by assigning responsibilities, delegating authority, recruiting, selecting, orienting, training and retaining employees.

•Maintains production staff job results by coaching, counseling and disciplining employees, team building, and planning, monitoring and appraising job results.

•Reviews, signs-off and trains staff on new documentation.

•Contributes to the team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Formal Training/Education

Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing, Engineering or related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

Master of Business Administration an asset, but not required.


5 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience must include three years of supervisory or project management experience.

Knoledge, Skill, or Ability

  • Knowledge of GMP/QSR/ISO.
  • Well-developed managerial skills including budgeting, planning and scheduling.
  • Computer literacy in database, spreadsheet, project management, and word processing software.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and manufacturing procedures.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to organize, lead and evaluate the work of other personnel required.
  • Ability to develop, coordinate and implement multi-level individual and team-based projects.
  • Well-developed interpersonal communication skills.
