The Early Biomarker Development Oncology (EBDO) Team is responsible for identification and validation

of candidate molecular biomarkers used for demonstration of pharmacodynamic effects and mechanism-of-action, as well as for response prediction and patient selection / stratification. EBDO will make use of available technologies such as flow cytometry, RNA seq, genomics, Immunohistochemistry, etc, applied to clinical specimens from exploratory early stage trials. The EBDO Team supports the whole oncology portfolio and closely interacts with Discovery and Early Clinical Development.

The job in a nutshell:

Histopathology laboratory activities required by EBDO are performed by external Contract Research Organizations (CROs). The Biomarker Projects Scientist is a highly technical expert that will perform project management activities by coordinating interactions between internal biomarker experts and the external vendors, with an emphasis on histopathology outsourcing requests. Projects may include outsourcing an IHC assay establishment for use in early clinical trials, outsourcing a target assessment or prevalence request for a new candidate biomarker, coordinate external acquisition of pathology data sets (images and/or blocks) in support of reverse translation digital pathology request, among others.

You will be part of the Biomarker Data Sourcing Group within EBDO and work within a functional matrix of highly skilled and experienced co-workers and peers.

A few additional details on the main expected activities for this position:

  • Discuss and document the scientific scope, requirements and project deliverables;
  • Work with the external partners to define timelines and resources;
  • Ensure contracts with external partner(s) are properly established;
  • Monitor the execution and implementation of the defined project(s) to meet timelines and technical/quality expectations;
  • Ensure the external biomarker data is made available within the approved timelines.

And the technical requirements for this position?

  • You hold a PhD in Biological Sciences with at least 3-5 years of work experience in the pharmaceutical or diagnostic industry, alternatively you have a Scientific Master degree with respectively 8-10 years work experience
  • Hands-on experience in histopathology and tissue analysis techniques highly preferred
  • Experience in vendor (e.g. Contract Research Organization) management preferred
  • Experience in contract management preferred
  • Good communication skills, including fluent English skills
