External Alliances Manager

The I3 DTA, part of Roche’s pRED group is looking to hire an External Alliances Manager located in Basel. This position will be charged with the initiation, implementation, management and communication of global external alliances with academia and non-profit organizations, including research centres, universities, medical schools and hospitals to enrich the I3 portfolio and enable progress of individual research programs.

Main job responsibilities:

  • Drive external alliances from evaluation, initiation, establishment to long term management with academia and non-profit organizations together with I3 internal scientific champions, Roche Partnering and other external innovation groups in pRED

  • Proactively work with I3-DTA management and project leaders to define strategic WANT for external collaborations and identify external opportunities matching strategic fit

  • Lead and coordinate meetings with external and internal scientists to scope and define collaboration opportunities. Support individual collaboration planning (research plan, key milestones), coordination and allocation of internal and external resource usage across the portfolio to maximize chances of achieving portfolio deliverables

  • Implement the relevant contractual, legal and financial framework for external collaborations by working with Legal, Patents and Finance

  • Alliance Management to ensure effective collaboration between I3 and partner scientists to meet the aims and successful outcome of the collaboration. Monitor progress and adherence to timelines, commitments, deliverables and contractual obligations

  • Manage and track the I3 external collaboration portfolio and organize periodic reviews incl. deliverables, timelines, budget for the I3-DTA Management

  • Represent I3 External Alliances in meetings and boards discussing external collaboration proposals, implementation and alliance management

  • Key point of contact at local site for all collaboration matters

Who you are

You have a PhD in a life science discipline and/or MBA with scientific training and a minimum of 5+ years’ experience in pharmaceutical R&D is required. In addition you bring:

  • General knowledge of all core pharma R&D disciplines and the science of drug discovery (e.g. biology, HTS/assay technology, pharmacology/toxicology, medicinal chemistry) with deep knowledge in at least one area

  • Immunology/Inflammation and/or Infectious Diseases expertise preferred

  • At least 1+ years’ experience in pharmaceutical R&D in a business role and demonstrated expertise in interacting with academic institutions is desirable

  • Capable of quickly gathering high-level understanding of complex technical, medical and scientific topics

  • Demonstrated experience in the initiation and management of external alliances

  • Significant experience as a project leader in leading/managing and driving cross-functional teams

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally and frame/make decisions from a portfolio perspective

  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal communication skills

  • Excellent skills in both prioritization and time management

  • Fluency in English mandatory
