The Position

In the BioAnalytical Sciences (BAS) Department at Genentech, we are a world-class bioanalytical center of excellence for novel strategies, technologies, and methods that enable the development of life-changing medicines. We do this by fostering an innovative and collaborative environment that values and recognizes diversity of contributions. 

We seek a highly motivated and talented Scientist to play a crucial role in expanding Genentech’s immunogenicity risk assessment efforts. The candidate will closely collaborate with multidiscipline groups within Genentech Research and Development (gRED) organizations, machine learning/artificial intelligence) ML/AI (, and bioinformatics to develop novel models to predict and interrogate early immunogenicity biomarkers. In addition, the candidate will take a lead role to drive projects and execute innovative methods to identify the immunogenicity profile liability of biotherapeutics. This position is aimed to improve critical decision-making and advance drug development.


  • Develop new and improve existing processes and predictive models to identify the cause of immunogenicity risk of novel therapeutic agents 

  • Apply novel computational research strategies to characterize antigen-specific immune responses

  • Mine databases and translate findings, using preclinical and clinical findings to anticipate the degree of an immunogenic response of new therapeutics and improve clinical outcome

  • Design and interpret experiments to identify and characterize mechanisms leading to T cell activation 

  • Provide subject matter expertise and participate in regulatory filings, as needed

  • Participate and contribute to team meetings, publish in high-quality scientific, technical, or medical journals, and present at internal and external meetings.


  • PhD, MD or PhD/MD in Data Science, Immunology, or a related field or an equivalent credential is required with at least three years of relevant postgraduate experience either in an academic or industry setting

  • Strong bioinformatics programming skills using R/Bioconductor and/or Python

  • Experience in the assessment of antigen-specific immune responses of MHC class I or II immune reactive epitopes is strongly preferred

  • Experience with modern machine learning methods is desired

  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry is an advantage.

  • Demonstrated record of scientific leadership as evidenced by first or senior author publications in high impact journals

  • Outstanding presentation and communication skills
