Meet Tony, Senior Business Analyst at Roche in Welwyn

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I’ve worked in UK Pharma Informatics for over ten years. Responsible for reporting and analytics, I have recently started a new role as a Senior Business Analyst within the Cluster Solutions Team, supporting colleagues in the Northern Europe Cluster, which consists of the UK, Ireland, the Nordics and the Baltics. Before I came to Roche, I worked in various organisations, all involving data analytics and Business Intelligence, including the Healthcare service and large technology corporations.

In which Roche location do you currently work and what can you tell us about that location as a work environment?

I work in Welwyn Garden City which is just outside London. The location offers great transport links which means it is easily accessible to colleagues who travel from further afield. The office is based in a modern, award-winning building with lots of open space, both inside and out. There is a wealth of amenities on site, including a restaurant, cafés and a gym.

Why did you decide to join Roche and why at this location?

I applied for a position at Roche as I considered it the perfect way of building on and consolidating my background in IT and healthcare. The Welwyn site has the added advantage of being home to almost all Roche functions, which generates a collaborative, innovative environment where individuals can thrive. I also live locally which allows me to cycle to work, making use of the company’s sustainable travel policy.

Tell us about what you do in your current role at Roche?

As a Senior Business Analyst I provide the link between the Business and IT to ensure that we identify and deliver innovative, effective and accessible Business Intelligence Solutions for our Cluster. I work closely with key stakeholders within the Business to help them recognise their needs and clarify the problems they are aiming to address. I then capture and analyse their requirements using “Business language” and translate these in such a way that is relevant, clear and practical to the Technical Team. I gain great satisfaction from this challenging yet richly rewarding role within IT, as it allows me to contribute and make a difference in a variety of different areas within the Business.

How would you describe Roche as an employer?

Roche has been awarded a Top Employer award for the fifth year running. It values its employees very highly and supports us in a variety of ways, both professionally and personally. The company offers attractive benefits and events are held throughout the year to underpin its ongoing commitment to our development and wellbeing. There is strong, supportive leadership throughout the company which provides a positive, pleasant and productive environment in which to work.

How would you describe the people working here?

The people who work at Roche have a real passion, courage and integrity in what they do. This is reflected to a great extent in IT, where colleagues take advantage of the technology and resources available to them to deliver real value to the Business. There is a collaborative, cross functional approach to how people work which promotes innovation and a constructive channelling of ideas.

How is your job connected to the company's purpose of “doing now what patients need next”?

The Cluster Solutions team in which I work is uniquely structured to allow its members to contribute directly to the company’s key purpose. I am able to work closely with all relevant areas of the Business in creating innovative, valuable and scalable solutions which not only support and drive the company towards its goals but also provides a deeply rewarding work experience.
