Meet Anastasia Tzimpoukaki, Intern in Pharma Informatics at Roche

Tell us a bit about yourself

Hello, my name is Anastasia Tzimpoukaki and I come from Crete, the most southerly Greek island. I have lived in Baden since September 2011.

My main areas of scientific interest are Data management, Portfolio management and Innovation management. I have two years of experience working in Data Management, Business Intelligence System Development and IT customer support.

In my free time I love travelling around the world, meeting people from other cultures. I am a fan of outdoor activities and I love scuba diving in the sea. I am deeply interested in the arts, history and culture.

In April 2013 I joined Roche Pharma Informatics as an intern in the Pharma Informatics Strategic Planning and Project Management Office department, where I was also given the opportunity to pursue my Master’s thesis.

Where did you study?

I completed my undergraduate studies in Business Planning and Information Systems at the Technological Institute of Patras in Greece.

I am now nearing the end of my MSc Business Information Systems at the University of Applied Sciences in Basel (FHNW) and am currently writing my Master’s thesis at Roche on the topic Project Portfolio Analytics.

In which Roche location are you currently working?

I am located in Pharma IT at the Roche headquarters in Basel.

What can you tell us about that location?

I truly enjoy working at the Roche headquarters. It is a diverse, international environment where I get to meet highly skilled and open-minded scientists. The employment conditions are good and everyone is willing to support their colleagues at any time.

The services and facilities provided for the employees, such as a post office, canteen, swimming pool and dry cleaner, as well as convenient transportation, are very satisfactory. Last but not least, the Rhine is a beautiful place to enjoy your lunch break with colleagues in summer.

Why did you decide to join Roche?

Roche is a leading innovative company in which to develop yourselfI truly believe that joining IT in Roche will be a milestone and springboard in my career as a young and motivated IT scientist.

What is your current job?

In Pharma Informatics Planning Project Management Office I support the Project Management Methodology. In particular, I am required to improve the already existing Project Management Methodology so as to enable this repeatable process to facilitate standardised delivery of high quality project solutions to all IT customers within Pharma Informatics. My duties include gathering, tracking, prioritising and implementing requests for improvements based on Project Managers’ feedback in the templates associated with the existing Project Management Methodology. Last but not least, I participated in the introduction of a Key Performance Indicators framework related to Project Portfolio Management and Project Management by analysing potential Key Performance Indicators relating to efficiency, effectiveness and compliance, and to cross-departmental effects. The goal is to introduce end-to-end metrics to measure the success and flaws of the existing Project Management process so that the Key Performance Indicators monitoring can be transformed into a supporting tool.

What makes it such a great job?

I joined Pharma IT three months ago and I can confidently say that I have enriched my knowledge of key topics in IT, worked with highly successful IT professionals ,and I have had the opportunity to learn from Roche since I am writing my Master’s thesis in the department at the same time. Such activities and environment create ideal conditions for future IT scientists in Roche with promising developmental prospects. Last but not least, I was delighted to be able to use Gmail instead of Outlook! I am so proud to tell my colleagues at university that the company I joined is using Google!

Can you pick at least three of Roche’s attributes and explain in detail what they mean to you?

  • Development opportunities: There are numerous opportunities to develop yourself at Roche. Interesting training sessions frequently take place where each employee can enrich and strengthen his/her competencies in various areas.
  • Work-life balance: Roche accommodates flexible working hours. During your break you can go swimming or for a walk near the Rhine, and when you are unable to come to work at the office you have the option of working from home via VPN .
  • Respect: is something you feel daily at Roche. Respect for other cultures, ideas and opinions.

Please complete the following sentence:

Roche is a great place to work because... innovation and people are of central importance.
