Meet Justyna, Senior IT Professional Business Intelligence at Roche

Tell us a bit about yourself

My name is Justyna. I joined Roche five years ago as a specialist for Oracle  Software Development and am now working in the area of Business Intelligence as a Senior IT Professional.

Already in high school I was very interested in mathematics so afterwards I studied computer science at Poznan Adam Mickiewicz University where I finished with a master’s degree. This wasn’t a popular direction to go for girls at the time.

Apart from general hobbies like watching movies and reading tons of books, I love hiking in the mountains. Last year my husband and I accomplished the challenge of walking a 500 km mountain route in 18 days. In Poznan I have also learnt to dance flamenco and I have been doing it for seven years now.

In which Roche location are you currently working and what can you tell us about that location as a work environment?

I work for Roche ADMD in Poznań, Poland. The site is located by lake Malta – in a quiet area but still close to the city center. It is easy to get to the Malta Office Park (a complex of modern buildings) by car or tram, but it is comfortable by bike as well. I ride to work on my bike every day all year round. Roche offers a special locked parking area for bikes and a cloak room and shower to get changed for work.

Why did you decide to join Roche and why this location?

I came to Poznan 15 years ago to study and after my graduation I started working here. One of my former classmates worked for Roche and started encouraging me to join Roche as well. I trusted his opinion and have never regretted my decision. I have met a lot of passionate, great people here. When last year ADMD celebrated its 10 year anniversary I thought that Roche is the company I would like to celebrate the next anniversaries with.

What is your current position at Roche?

I work as a Senior IT Professional in the area of Business Intelligence in ADMD Group Service.

My everyday tasks include developing (extracting, transporting, loading data into a Global Data Warehouse) and creating documentation. I also act as IT Tech Lead for contractors with whom we deliver software. This means coordinating the project work to ensure the development tasks go smoothly. I cooperate closely with Solution Architects, Project Managers and testers.

Apart from my project responsibilities I am also taking part in other initiatives and innovations, sharing my practical knowledge and learning with others through a team called LearnBI., which trains developers as well as end users, on various levels and using a variety of BI tools.

How would you describe Roche as an employer?

First of all there are a lot of opportunities for personal development. In ADMD you can choose three different career paths: Expert, Delivery and Manager. When you are on your path, you can join training or conferences related to your area on a yearly basis. There are a lot of knowledge sharing initiatives: communities of practice, mentoring, an expert academy, hackathons etc. You can also choose short-term assignments in different positions through a change of perspective programme.

Roche provides many benefits for its employees such as private health-care, a pension scheme, group insurance, a multisport card etc. The work-life balance is taken very seriously. Roche also offers sport activities - there are a lot of sports clubs and their team members represent Roche in many competitions. I am a member of the Roche Runners club and represent the company in some local races.

Poznań is a university town – almost a quarter of the population are students. Roche is also very attractive for them as it offers positions for students and graduates.

How would you describe the people working here?

The talented, passionate people are the key value of Roche. They enjoy being part of such a great company. Their accountability and dedication is highly visible. There are many different nationalities and cultures working together and such a variety is valuable. It causes multiple points of view on the same topic or problem and stimulates discussion.

What can you tell us about the current job openings in your department?

There are several open positions in ADMD. They cover many levels of expertise - from Junior IT Specialist to Senior IT Professionals and Lead IT Experts on the expert path. Managerial and delivery managerial positions are also available. There are two recruitment projects: one for individual contributors and managers and a graduate program.

We are looking for open-minded people eager to improve their skills and share their knowledge.
