Business Perspectives was designed to hire great talent at an early stage in their career, and accelerate their development across geographies & functions, enabling them to be a key contributor to our company’s purpose, and above all a differentiator to patients lives.

The Business Perspectives Program does exactly that: create an environment in which potential & diversity of thinking is leveraged to shape the future of Roche, the future of Healthcare.
Duration: the Program lasts 24 months for everyone. During this 2-year journey you rotate a couple of times across our operating businesses, with the ultimate aim to build skills, capabilities, experience and a network that help enable Roche to establish integrated PHC solutions. Your journey is personalized, and so you plan your rotations according to your needs: e.g. Access, Partnerships, Digital Innovation, Data Management, Sales etc. Most rotations last for 6 to 8 months.
Assignments and Locations, and the impact of Covid: Program participants take ownership of their rotations with support from executive-level mentors and the Business Perspectives Program Manager. This Program accelerates one’s development through change & challenge, paired with conscious planning and formal training. The assignments & locations vary depending on interest, business need and the participants’ aspired career path.
Our globalized world has been brought to a crashing halt by the coronavirus. Everyone who decides to join this Program needs to flex and adapt, as we balance out learning/stretching in different cultural environments with the limitations of immigration. Today, we are implementing creative solutions with pragmatism which continue to enhance learning & growth for everyone on the Program, be it within certain geographical boundaries. We want candidates to build a breadth of experience, so assignments can include work in a variety of roles in Commercial (Partnering, Sales, Access, Marketing etc), combined with stints in IT, R&D, Product Development etc. depending on what kind of experience you seek to gather. It's very likely that you will onboard virtually given the pandemic, and that you will experience an organization in a state of change. You will receive guidance and support to find ways to learn/grow and make impact regardless of these roadblocks.
Leadership Development: Business Perspectives provides participants with a global leadership development program aimed at establishing a broader understanding of the business, build intercultural awareness, experience leadership fundamentals in action, and accelerate their development in order to prepare themselves to potentially move into a critical role. There is a mix of facilitator-led training and simulations, which helps participants to immediately apply what they have learnt. We use the insights we gained at the Assessment Center to understand areas of development for you once you start with the Program. The Leadership Development training you receive will also offer you a great opportunity to network with other participants and leaders from around the globe. Apart from formal training, there are multiple peer coaching opportunities and senior leadership mentoring.
- Excellent academic profile: Degree in business, science, or data science and a postgraduate degree (MBA, PhD, MD, MEng, MSc etc). Ideally post-graduate degree and an MBA.
- 3-5 years of working experience in the following industries: Pharma, Diagnostics, Biotech, Med Tech, Information Technology (healthcare oriented preferred) or Consulting to Healthcare. Exposure to either commercial roles, or projects related to innovation in digital or advanced analytics technologies for the healthcare industry.
- Worked or studied in more than one country, preferably in a developing region (i.e. APAC, LATAM, MEA).
- Fluent/Bilingual in English, and a second language. Any other language is an asset.
- Global mobility throughout the 2 year rotational program, ánd afterwards.
- Strong strategic, entrepreneurial and agile mindset, with the ability to think analytically and innovatively. Courageous, curious, creative and inspired by change/transformation with the capacity to think out of the box when the situation requires flexibility and speed. Ability to continually flex & adapt.
- Agile learner with strong leadership potential and a passion to make things happen, who can inspire & engage others beyond line-management responsibility.

Post Program, you are fully empowered to assess opportunities and decide on your future career with Roche. Journeys of Business Perspectives Alumni have taken them to places that truly span the globe; Basel, Russia, China, Norway, San Francisco, United Kingdom,.. You name it. Among our graduates, depending on seniority, we have Country/Regional/Global Commercial Strategists, Managers and Leaders.
How will I develop during the Perspectives program?
The experiences of delivering on substantial projects in a variety of business functions and cultural contexts are the primary source of development in Business Perspectives. But we supplement these experiences with a dedicated senior leader mentor, annual leadership training with expert providers, and regular peer feedback (a program buddy) and sharing across the Business Perspectives network. As such, this Program provides an incredibly rich learning experience.
How are rotations determined in Perspectives?
Career journeys are personalized. In line with business priorities, and the skills/capabilities you want to build, you choose your rotations and design your path for the Program. You play a critical role in this process; you work with potential leads and you hunt for assignments that will enable you to grow, learn and make an impact. You are in the driving seat, you take ownership. And you’re receiving support from your Program Manager and Senior Leader Mentor.
What kind of exposure will I have to senior leadership at Roche?
In every rotation, you’ll get exposure to senior leadership. In addition, we hold quarterly “Fireside Chats” and monthly “Business Perspectives Conference Calls” that have included a variety of senior leaders, who share their experiences/career journeys. During our “Business Perspectives Summit”, we have invited many senior leaders including our CEO (Dr. Severin Schwan) and our Diagnostics CEO (Dr. Thomas Schinecker), who is an Alum of the Program.
How many positions do you have in Business Perspectives?
The Program can host 12 people at a time.
What is the duration of the Business Perspectives Program contract?
Roche Business Perspectives offers a 2-year temporary contract. Toward the end of the program, you will receive full support with finding your post-program role. You have the freedom to choose your post-program position, by applying to any position in the function and the location based on your goals and interests.
