Meet Ryan D.
Tell us a bit about yourself:
I was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, and have lived there all of my life. After having knee surgery on my knee three separate times, I decided that golf was the sport for me and have become an avid golfer since. I also enjoy watching sports of all kinds especially American football and soccer.
Where did you study?
I studied at Purdue University and got a degree in Industrial Management with a minor in Information Systems. Since coming to Roche, I also returned to school to get my Masters in Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University.
In which Roche location are you currently working?
I am currently working for Roche in Indianapolis, Indiana.
What can you tell us about that location?
The Indianapolis campus is a beautiful, 150-acre campus in northeast Indianapolis and is only a 20 minute commute from my home. It has approximately 3000 employees and is surrounded by the amazing town of Fishers. The campus has numerous amenities such as a cafeteria and an employee park. The employee park contains a walking trail, soccer and football fields, and even a pond for fishing.
Why did you decide to join Roche?
Having grown up just down the road from Roche, I was able to see firsthand the importance of Roche in the community. After graduating, I was lucky enough to get an opportunity to intern at Roche in order to gain experience and build my resume. Needless to say, it has worked out well for me and I have been here ever since.
What is your current job?
My current job at Roche is Design Verification Lead assigned to test one of Roche’s blood glucose meters currently under development. Essentially, it is my team’s responsibility to verify that the glucose meter is meeting its specifications. My individual responsibilities include providing guidance and leadership to 15 team members developing protocol to test the 4,000 requirements specified for the meter. This gives me the opportunity to drive change into and help improve the products that Roche produces.
I am also able to be heavily involved in the intern program for the Research and Development department and support university recruitment activities at schools throughout Indiana.
What makes it such a great job?
I believe the best part about my job is the challenge that it offers every day. No two days are ever the same and I am always offered the opportunity to expand my responsibilities and take on new tasks. I am able to expand beyond my job description to take on other challenges that are important to me.
Can you pick at least three of the attributes of Roche and explain in detail what they mean to you?
Work/Life balance is important to me as I’m sure it is too everyone and I truly believe that this is one of the more important attributes that Roche adheres to, and it’s not just lip service. As I once heard a manager at Roche say, “You must have your life in order at home before you can ever come to work and fully be engaged.”
Development opportunities are vital to my career aspirations and is something fully supported by Roche. Whether it is yearly off-site training or providing support towards getting my MBA, there are ample opportunities for me to grow and expand my capabilities.
The products that Roche offers are of the highest quality. Everything Roche employees do is done with the understanding that quality is job number one.
Please complete the following sentence: Roche is a great place to work because...
...I love my job. The amazing people that I work with, the challenge that my job offers, and the work/life balance that is afforded to me makes it easy to get up and go to work every day.
How would you describe the people working here?
Roche employees are caring, hard-working individuals that are the best at what they do. Everywhere you look are people that are very passionate about their jobs. There is a real sense of camaraderie.
What would you advise job seekers who want to join us?
If you are looking for more than a job and enjoy the sense of community that a large campus can offer, then Roche is the place for you. It is exciting to work at an innovative company like Roche that is constantly trying to push the envelope and find new ways to improve people’s lives.
