Meet Ben M.

Tell us a bit about yourself:

My name is Ben and I am 24 years old. I was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and have lived in five other US states, most recently in Indiana, where I have been for the past 10 years. Moving a lot when I was younger has instilled a love for travel, new experiences and new opportunities. I am a first-generation Mexican-American and enjoy staying connected with my heritage. My hobbies include exercise, outdoor activities, playing and listening to music, being with family and friends, and I do consider myself a “foodie”.

Where did you study?

I graduated in 2009 from Purdue University with a bachelor’s in Industrial Management and a concentration in Operations Management.
In which Roche location are you currently working?
I have been working in the North American headquarters for Diagnostics in Indianapolis, Indiana, since 2009.

What can you tell us about that location?

The Indianapolis location is located in the northeast side of Indianapolis, bordering the suburb of Fishers. It is a beautiful campus, featuring many ponds, fountains and beautifully landscaped courtyards and common areas. It very accessible and is close to the city’s commercial hotspots, Castleton and Keystone at the Crossing. There is an abundance of restaurants close to campus, so it is very easy to grab a quick bite for lunch outside of campus.

Why did you decide to join Roche?

I have always had an interest in the healthcare industry, and wanted to have the opportunity to work in a global company. I also would like to have the opportunity for international work experience. Roche was an easy choice!

What is your current job?

I am a Procurement Agent. I am responsible for managing the relationship with suppliers that provide goods for the manufacturing and/or distribution of Roche products. This includes the qualification, contracting, performance management, cost development and monitoring processes. I work in close collaboration with many functions within the organization, from Research and Development in finding new, innovative suppliers, to Supply Chain and Supplier Quality in managing the performance of current suppliers. What I do day to day varies, depending on the projects I lead or support and what comes up that needs taken care of! It’s a very dynamic and rewarding area to be a part of.

What makes it such a great job?

Exposure. It’s a great discipline to be in if you desire to know more about the products, the many functions that support the development, manufacturing and distribution of those products, and have the opportunity to work with global colleagues.

Can you pick at least three of the attributes of Roche and explain in detail what they mean to you?
