Meet Parisa

Tell us a bit about yourself:

I am a Microbiologist by education, but mainly focus on the business side of the company at this point.  After earning a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of California at Davis, I started my career at one of the largest Biotech companies in the Bay Area as a development scientist. Later, I made the transition to marketing, working in different business units including Fragment Analysis, Sequencing and Real Time PCR.  Prior to joining Roche, I lead a marketing team at a mid-size diagnostic company and taught Microbiology in the evenings at the University of San Francisco. I have lived in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1998 and enjoy reading, biking, hiking as well as exploring different countries and cultures.

What is your current job?

I am currently an International Business Leader in the HPV and Microbiology Lifecycle Team. I joined Roche Molecular Diagnostics as a Senior Product Manager in late 2006 and moved to my current role after three years of managing the Industrial Business in the Business Development team.

In which Roche location are you currently working? What can you tell us about that location?

I work in Pleasanton, California, which is the headquarters for Roche Molecular Diagnostics. We have over 550 employees at this site working in a wide variety of disciplines including research, development, finance, legal, business development, marketing and medical affairs.
Why did you decide to join Roche?
I had known about Roche as an OEM partner in my previous position and found both the culture of the company and its commitment to innovation very appealing.  Roche has enabled me to stay close to both healthcare industry and patients while learning the complex and vast diagnostics business.

What makes it a great place to work?

Roche is a true multicultural company where one can learn from colleagues around the globe. It is an environment that supports and rewards excellence, honesty and integrity where people get great results and are treated very well.

How would you describe the people working here?

My colleagues at Roche are passionate about what they do.  I am very privilege and fortunate to be working with some of the brightest and most intelligent scientists and business leaders in the industry, who are able to make a difference in patient’s lives.  The company has always instilled its trust in me to provide quality products and I feel that I have the privilege of giving my best right back. Roche provides its employees an opportunity to have a career – not just a job!

What would you advise job seekers who want to join us?

If you are looking to work for a company whose employees are passionate about making a difference solving patient’s problems with a high level of integrity and commitment, then Roche is the place to be.

How is your job connected to “doing now what patients need next”

In my current role, I serve as the internal and external champion for future diagnostics products in the Microbiology space.  I work with infectious disease physicians, sales, marketing, research & development as well as other cross functional partners. I feel that I am connected to “doing what patients need next” by ensuring timely, high quality diagnostics / testing solutions which enables optimal care and treatment throughout the patient journey.
