Tell us a bit about yourself
I have a supply chain background. I started as a logistics coordinator with a large logistics company in South Africa back in 2001. After 5 years I moved to a large multinational beverage manufacture were my primary role was to manage all procurement and logistics activities for different breweries within Africa. After 4 years I moved into the Pharma industry as a distribution manager for a large multinational and now a logistics and procurement manager for Roche. Outside of work I am a true petrol head and enjoy motor sport. I also enjoy playing football with the Roche staff and watch a bit of cricket when I can.
In which Roche location do you currently work and what can you tell us about that location as a work environment?
I currently work at the Roche Illovo offices in Johannesburg. It is a really vibey area with great restaurants and best of all the wanders cricket stadium is just down the road.
Why did you decide to join Roche and why at this location?
Thinking back at all the diverse industries I worked in, Supply Chain in the pharma industry within the South African environment got me hooked. The complexity of operating a highly regulated supply chain and finding innovative solutions to get products to patients in the right time frame and quality made me shift my focus from the “main stream” activities in South Africa and seek employment at a very reputable pharma company. After research and with some luck I saw the need for the position at Roche and took the leap. The rest as they say is history and a year and a half later I am still enjoying every minute of it…
What is your current position at Roche?
I am the Logistics and Procurement manager. When I look at the passion and enthusiasm of the people I work with, it motivates me to do more and develop innovative solutions to sometimes complex problems. This is what gets me up in the morning knowing that the people I work with all have the same goal……getting valuable medicine to people who need it.
How would you describe Roche as an employer?
The feeling I get when someone asks me this question is proud. I believe Roche has the true interest in not only getting products to patients but also in developing the market in which it operates.
How would you describe the people working here?
Passionate and engaged
How is your job connected to “doing now what patients need next”
By ensuring our supply chain is robust we can rest assured that the quality of our products in always intact all the way to the patient.
