The voice of Vega Yeung

The buzz surrounding the swift pace of growth of Asia’s biomedical industry in recent years led Vega to develop a great interest in the biomedical industry and enroll in the post-graduate course of study in Molecular Engineering of Biological and Chemical Systems at the National University of Singapore. She joined Roche at the end of 2007 as a proud member of the team that made RSTO the first biologics manufacturing facility to obtain FDA approval in Singapore.

Vega sees her job as having a good mix of hands-on field execution and analytical investigation/documentation work. “As I move from one project to another, I pick up new skill sets, make new friends and tackle a novel set of challenges. This makes the journey in Roche thus far extremely enjoyable and personally gratifying. The learning curve never flattens and I find myself contributing to the organisation in different capacities as I move from one assignment to another,” she noted.

For Vega, the work environment in RSTO is enjoyable and informal. “We have a wonderful Unity Park with water features connecting the two adjoining facilities. The tranquil environment in the park makes the walk between the facilities a relaxing one,” she commented. At Roche, employees are encouraged to actively adopt a healthy work-life balance. “Senior management participates regularly in company events which made me realise that working hard and having fun at work are not mutually exclusive!” she noted.
