Start Up Active & Alumni Meeting in Grenzach

Roche Beyond - People, Pipeline, Products

This year’s Active & Alumni Meeting, which was held for the first time in a long time in Grenzach, was under the motto “Roche Beyond – People, Pipeline, Products”.  The organizational team, consisting of 6 trainees from Grenzach, was extremely pleased to be able to welcome so many participants from various trainee programs and different sites to the beautiful border triangle. The trainee programs are 24 to 36-month programs, which should provide the participants with a “jumpstart” in the pharmaceutical industry and serve as the foundation for a career at Roche. The programs have very diverse contents and allow for comprehensive and profound insights into the pharmaceutical industry. For the trainee program Roche has been rewarded with the trainee award in 2017 once again. The participants traveled from sites such as Basel, Rotkreuz, Mannheim and Penzberg and thus the active exchange between the active and former trainees from the different programs and sites was paramount.

It is important to encourage people to exchange themselves over and over again.

The day started with a speech by Dr. Christoph Franz, Chairman of the Board of Directors, in which he spoke about the future opportunities and challenges with a view to the organization as a whole and, in a subsequent Q&A session, readily answered all of the questions the trainees asked. Afterwards, Prof. Dr. Hagen Pfundner and Dr. Thomas Schinecker presented the challenges and opportunities from the operative perspective with a focus on the German business. Here, the exchange with the participants was also not neglected. After their presentation, both of the General Managers fielded critical questions about the cooperation between the Diagnostics and Pharma divisions. After that, the participants had the chance to get active themselves and discuss a number of points and suggestions around the opportunities and challenges of the future as well as the Roche culture in small groups together with members of the management teams from Grenzach and Mannheim.

After brief refreshments during a joint lunch, the different areas of the Grenzach site introduced themselves in the course of an open marketplace in the afternoon. It was a particularly exciting experience for the participants from the other sites to get informed and exchange with the colleagues from Grenzach about their areas of responsibility at the various stands. Of course, creature comforts were also provided for and there were comfortable cushions and stools in a cozy lounge atmosphere in the middle for short “breathers”. Eventually, the eventful day was drawing to a close and came to a relaxed end after a good meal in an informal atmosphere.

All in all, the trainees experienced an informative day full of variety, during which a lot could be learned about the development of current and former trainees and where the importance of a global network was made clear time and time again.

Today’s meeting has made it possible to get to know people from different sites, but especially the site in Grenzach.
