Meet Raphael, Account Manager at Roche in Mannheim

As a sales company, Roche Diagnostics Deutschland GmbH is responsible for marketing all diagnostics products in the German market. We talked to the account manager Raphael about his exciting activities in the sales department of Point-of-Care Hospital.



Studied, among others, Molecular Life Sciences at the Humboldt-University of Berlin and received a PhD at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC), in Berlin. Since the 1st of April 2017, Raphael has been working as an account manager in the sales unit of Point-of-Care Hospital.

Raphael, what are you doing in the field service at Roche?

As an account manager in the department Point-of-Care Hospital, I am responsible for all hospitals in my region. My product portfolio includes all of our PoC devices - from small blood glucose meters to larger blood gas analyzers. All these devices are used close to the patient in hospitals. In the end, it is always a question of providing a more efficient solution with our devices, which ideally allows a faster diagnosis and thus leads to an improved prognosis for the patient.

What do you like about it?

The interaction with many different people is a major reason why I decided to work in the sales field service. Every day is unique in the sales field service and there are always new, exciting challenges waiting for me. Today in Karlsruhe, tomorrow in Stuttgart and on Friday a customer visit in Freiburg. I'm traveling a lot and as a young person this is a very attractive part of my work. Being an account manager means being a small entrepreneur in a large company.

Why are you made for this job?

First of all, I love to communicate with people and find it also very exciting to meet new people. As an account manager you cannot be afraid of people. Of course, I am excited in advance of an important customer appointment, but exactly that is the appeal of this profession. The entrepreneurial aspect is also very important to me - I like to take responsibility as a small entrepreneur and to act autonomously. The nice thing about Roche is that you have a very big team behind you with whom you are in constant exchange - so you never end up alone.

What new colleagues / interns are you looking for and what skills does the intern have to bring along?

You like to take responsibility and love variety. People of different characters inspire you and you are a passionate networker who can listen well and ask the right questions at the right time. Furthermore, you are open, loyal, team- and result-oriented, which means you are glad about your success as well as the success in your team. Moreover, self-organization is not an alien concept to you. If that applies to you, you are exactly the person we are looking for!
