Dirk Schulz, Head of Test Strip Assembly DOMA (Diagnostics Operations, Assay Production Mannheim)
Diagnostics Operations Mannheim, in short DOM, ensures the global supply of patients, laboratories and hospitals with diagnostic reagents and test stripes. To this DOM as the largest field of Global Diagnostics Operations at the locations Mannheim and Penzberg produces a large variety of products for the in-vitro-diagnostics. With this program we want to show you some people which stand behind our success with proud and motivation.
Dirk Schulz, Head of Operations for test trip assembly in Test Strip Production, works in Assay Production in Mannheim (DOMA). He joined Roche Diagnostics in 1990. After working in several positions in central Engineering in Mannheim, he moved to Test Strip Production at the end of 2005 and has worked there ever since. This group was integrated into DOM in 2007.
What do you associate with DOM? What does DOM stand for?
“In my mind, DOM stands for IVD products of high, consistent quality and for a high level of on-time delivery. This means we always deliver our products as required and in a timely manner to patients who need our tests. This is how we give them peace of mind that their diagnosis will be highly precise. This makes me very proud, every day. After all, any one of us could find ourselves in the situation some day of having to rely on Roche Diagnostics.”
What motivates you to work for DOM?
“First and foremost, I am motivated by the products that we produce in DOM. As always, however, I am motivated by the values at Roche: Courage, passion, and integrity. We bravely tackle new challenges and develop a strong passion for optimizing the interfaces and lowering the production costs in order to ultimately design a process flow that keeps getting faster and faster.”
In your view, what makes DOM unique?
“I am really not able to make a comparison with other business areas. I am highly aware of the fact all of us at Roche focus on our unique characteristics. Our CEOs Severin Schwan and Roland Diggelmann send the right messages. We actively take up these messages in DOM and develop them further in line with our requirements. It is precisely this process of developing solutions that support the strategies in just the right way - this makes me very happy. Having the freedom to decide the best approach, rather than being told what approach to take.”
What is special about your site?
“The central location! We are located nearly precisely at the center of Europe. In Mannheim, in particular, we are directly connected to our Logistics organization, for example. Other advantages include the fact that our colleagues in Research and Development, Automation and Construction also work on this campus, which enables us to work together very closely and intensively."
