Tell us a bit about yourself

I am originally from Taiwan and joined Roche Shanghai in 2013 as Senior Statistical Programming and Analysis Manager to be in charge of the oncology portfolio. I was appointed to SPA Shanghai Site Head in July 2014.

Now, I am responsible for all statistical programming support for Pharma Development (PD) and pRED or gRED at PDY. In addition, I contribute to the strategic direction of the global SPA function and ensure those strategies are understood and applied at PDY in a timely manner and consistent with the strategic intent.

What can you tell us about that location as a work environment?

Before I took the SPA site head role, my manager and I discussed how to develop my competencies and explore the possible opportunities for me to prepare myself. As a result, I sat in weekly SPA Leadership Team meetings to understand the global SPA strategies and priorities since early 2014. I also have opportunities to visit South San Francisco and Welwyn for about several weeks to learn how SPA managers and colleagues work at other sites.

These experiences allow me to learn the global SPA high-priority agenda and the local strengths for different sites. It’s quite helpful for me to lead a SPA team at PDY. I really appreciate the opportunities I had in the past year at Roche.

For the past year, many colleagues within SPA group have experienced different opportunities — one joining PDY mentor-mentee program, four having the rotation/ develop opportunities, and ten involving in the global initiatives to gain cross-site or cross-function collaboration experience.

How is your job connected to “doing now what patients need next”

The landscape for our Statistical Programming and Analysis group has been evolving in many ways. Data sharing regulatory requirements are emerging. New external customers, such as payers, are arising. Clinical trials are getting complex. Real World Data Science has been established as a new group within global Biometrics. As it evolves, we proactively identify the opportunities and fill the business needs, continue our analyst journey in enhancing analytical capabilities and doing analytical examples, while adopting standards as much as possible.

All strategic moves make Roche an analytical leader in the industry and benefit the patients in return, doing now what patients need next.
